Work History
Staked as Argyle, etc cl (59006) in Aug/48 by D. MacEachrone. The property was sold in Jan/49 to Silver Basin Yukon Mines Ltd, which was reorganized as Consolidated Yukeno Mines Ltd in Jan/50 and Yukeno Mines Ltd in May/51. Yukeno carried out limited bulldozer trenching in 1953. Restaked in Jan/56 as Silver Tip, Fox, etc cl (62943) by C. Nord who had staked the adjoining Ram, etc cl (59529) in Jan/50. Nord carried out bulldozer trenching before briefly optioning the property to United Keno Hill Mines Ltd in Jul/56; sank a 6 m shaft on the Fox cl 1 in 1957; and sold the property in 1968 to Silver Christal Mines Ltd. Silver Christal staked Barb, Sandy, Christal, etc cl (Yl4531) to the north in Apr/68 and carried out geochemical silt and soil sampling, trenching, magnetometer surveying and geological mapping in 1968 and drilled 8 holes (327.1 m) in 1969.
The Fox claims were restaked as OK cl 1-2 (Y33741) in Dec/70 by Silver Spring Mines Ltd who subsequently entered a joint venture with Canadian Reserve Oil and Gas Ltd. The joint venture conducted 105 m of drifting and drilled 5 underground holes in 1971 on their adjoining Paddy and Carol claims (Minfile Occurrence #105M 020) before staking OK cl 3-4 (Y85963) to the west in Oct/73. Portions of the Barb and Sandy groups were restaked as A cl (Y69013) in Feb/73 by E. Shileto and E. Freisen and again as the Rhonda cl (Y87266) in Feb/74 and Oct/75 and Phon cl (YA1347) in Sep/76 all by R. Holway.
A large block of 627 Zap cl (YA38459) was staked to the north in Mar/79 by Canada Tungsten Mining Corporation Ltd, which explored with reconnaissance silt, soil and lake bottom sampling in 1979-80 and airborne magnetometer and EM surveying in 1981. Springmont Operating Company Ltd (M. Swyzinski) optioned the OK claims in 1984, carried out bulldozer trenching in 1984 and 1986 and acquired ownership in 1987.
Capsule Geology
Silver-lead-zinc mineralization in the Elsa-Keno Hill mining camp occurs in north-northeast to east-northeast striking, steeply southeast dipping vein-faults located within a 23 km long by 6 km wide northeast trending belt of rocks on the south dipping limb of the McQuesten Antiform. The mineralized vein faults cut Devonian to Mississippian Earn Group phyllites, Mississippian Keno Hill quartzite and minor phyllite and Triassic meta-diorites. The vein-faults, are brittle displacement zones that show complex variations in style along their length. Narrow discrete planar fault segments pass into zones of tensional veining or shattered rock, brecciation and stockwork veining. The richest deposits occur in the vein-faults which cut the Keno Hill quartzites.
A typical narrow transverse type vein-fault cuts Earn Group carbonaceous phyllite and Triassic greenstone underlying Keno Hill quartzite. A channel sample from a bulldozer trench assayed 644.6 g/t Ag, 9.9% Pb and 38.4% Zn across 33 cm. Mineralized grab samples from the old shaft dump assayed 8.2 g/t Au, 21.9 g/t Ag and 29% As.
