Work History

The early history of this occurrence is unknown. It was first shown to the GSC in 1928. It is possible that the Hero and Echo cl (12337), staked for copper in Jun/13 by Hibbard Porter 'in the Glenlyon Range, 35 miles from the Pelly River', were located here.
Staked as Kulan and Tosella cl (63144) in Aug/52 by A. Kulan and B. Law and optioned in 1953 to a syndicate which included Noranda ML, Kerr Addison Gold ML and Prospectors Airways L, which conducted geophysical surveys and drilled 20 shallow holes (166.7 m) between 1953 and 1956. The adjoining Masa cl (68793) and Johanna cl were explored with hand trenching in 1955 and 12 x-ray holes (256.3 m) in 1956 by MacLeod-Cockshutt Gold ML.
The showing was restaked by Kulan as Carol cl (77908) in Aug/62 and optioned to Kerr Addision ML, which conducted mag, EM and SP surveys in 1963 and drilled 4 holes (337.4 m) in 1964. The claims were then optioned in 1965 by Atlas EL, which flew an airborne mag and EM survey in the spring of 1966 and conducted ground mag and EM surveys and soil sampling later in the year.
Restaked as Salmon cl (YA51274) in Aug/80 by Cominco, which performed mapping and geochem sampling in 1981 and 1982. Restaked as Toby cl (YB26800) in Oct/89 by Total Erickson Res L.

Capsule Geology

Two showings occur close together in Mississippian slate, argillite and calc-silicate. The Cliff showing consists of a 0.9 m wide quartz vein which cuts metasedimentary rocks and contains sphalerite, galena, pyrite and minor siderite. A 0.3 m chip sample collected by the GSC returned 805.7 g/t Ag, 48.8% Pb, 1.6% Zn and trace Au.
The Lake showing, which lies 45.7 m north of the Cliff showing, consists of garnet-diopside-quartz and massive magnetite skarn up to 6 m wide and 300 m long developed at the contact of limy chert and Cretaceous or Tertiary quartz-feldspar porphyry. The skarn is well mineralized with pyrite, pyrrhotite and galena with lesser chalcopyrite, tetrahedrite(?), scheelite, fluorite, arsenopyrite and rare molybdenite. A soil sample from the showing assayed 82 ppb Au and 3400 ppm As. Resampling of Kerr Addison's Hole #2 gave an assay of 0.02% Sn over a 16.5 m width. A specimen containing arsenopyrite, galena, sphalerite and chalcopyrite assayed 4500 ppb Au, 7600 ppm As and 351 ppm Ag. The porphyry near the skarn is altered and cut by quartz and fluorite veins containing minor pyrite, scheelite, chalcopyrite, sphalerite and molybdenite.
Two small pyrrhotite gossans, with weak geochemical response, were located 1000 m west and 1000 m east of the Lake showing.
