Work History
Staked as Rod cl 1-106 (Y8439) in Jun/66 by Rodstrom Yellowknife Mines Ltd, which allowed the claims to lapse without any work because of overstaking. Restaked as Try cl 9-96 (Y60953) in Jul/71 by Spartan Exploration Ltd, which carried out soil sampling and IP surveying later in the year. A joint venture arrangement was negotiated with Preussag Canada Ltd in late 1972.
Restaked as She cl 1-17 (Y75321) in Mar/73 by Kangaroo Exploration Ltd (Cyprus). The adjoining Try cl 9-76 (Y76351) were restaked in Aug/73 by Spartan Exploration Ltd. The west edge was restaked as Irene cl 1-56 (Y92519) in Feb/75 by Vangorda Project (Welcome North Mines Ltd and Getty Mines Ltd), which carried out geological mapping, geochemical and magnetometer surveying later that year. In 1976, Vangorda Project drilled 2 holes (394 m) in 1976.
Capsule Geology
The 1971-72 work was concentrated on a zone of disseminated pyrite and pyrrhotite in graphite schist. Vangorda Project tested a gravity anomaly and intersected up to 10% pyrite and pyrrhotite in Lower Cambrian calc-silicate and schist with occasional marble and graphitic horizons. These rocks have been assigned to the Mount Mye formation. Overlying these lithologies are calcareous phyllites of the Cambrian to Ordovician Vangorda formation and basalt, tuff and breccia of the Ordovician to Silurian Menzie Creek formation.
