Work History
Staked in Dec/65 as Alan cl 1-24 (96489) by Slocan Ottawa Mines Ltd and adjoining Fair cl 1-132 (95999) of Ross River Mines Ltd and New Far North Exploration Ltd.
The Alan group was restaked as Joe cl 1-8 (Y12351) in Apr/67 by Consolidated Bellekeno Mines Ltd and New Far North, which carried out airborne magnetometer and EM surveying in 1966 and mapping, ground magnetometer and geochemical surveying in 1967. Hecla Mining Company Ltd, under a 1969-70 option, carried out gravity surveying and Lion Mines Ltd, under a 1975 option, drilled one hole (98.1 m).
The Ross River Mines Ltd property was restaked as Crown cl 1-34 (Y12OOO) in Feb/67 by Anvil Mining Corporation Ltd, which carried out geochemical and IP surveying in 1967 and limited trenching in 1971; and as BG cl 1-16 (Y79898) in Jul/74 by Claymore Resources Ltd, which added the Sok cl 1-29 (Y79869) to the south and carried out mapping and geochemical surveying in 1975.
The area was almost completely restaked as Eva cl 1-47, Mabel cl 1-40 and Bev cl 1-28 (Y92403) in Mar/75 by Vangorda Project (Welcome North Mines Ltd and Getty Mines Ltd), which carried out geochemical, magnetometer and EM surveying in 1975; EM surveying and drilled 3 holes (835.2 m) on the Eva cl 13, 18 and 20 and 3 holes (835.2 m) on the Mabel claims in 1976; and mapping and geochemical sampling in 1978. The Fu cl 1-20 (YA51045) were tied on to the south in Aug/80 by Vangorda Project, which carried out airborne magnetometer and EM surveying in 1981. The Fu claims were transferred to Getty Mines in Sep/82.
Restaked as RV cl 1-165 (YB12498) in Dec/87 by Curragh Resources Ltd. In Nov/94 Anvil Range Mining Corporation acquired all claims owned by Curragh following the bankruptcy of the latter.
Anvil Range undertook a compilation study, between Aug/97 and Feb/98, to gather together all known geological data, including standardizing geological map units and accurately locating drill holes located within and surrounding their claim holdings. Only two reports, both of which cover claims assigned to this occurrence, were completed before Anvil Range encountered financial difficulties and terminated the project.
In Jan/98 Anvil Range filed for court protection in order to restructure the company. In Jan/99 Anvil Range¿s stock was delisted and the company entered bankruptcy proceedings.
Capsule Geology
The claims are underlain by schist of the Lower Cambrian Mount Mye formation and calc-silicate rocks of the Cambrian to Ordovician Vangorda formation. The mid-Cretaceous Anvil Batholith intrudes these rocks on the north margin of the claims. No mineralization has been reported.
The 1968, 1975 and 1976 drilling intersected weakly pyrrhotitic graphitic schists with minor greenstone. The 1976 drilling cut several zones of disseminated pyrite and pyrrhotite, but all assays were very low.
