Work History

Discovered during regional exploration by Teck Corporation and staked as Kiwi cl 1-40 (YB97891) and Kiwi cl 41-82 (YC07901) in Jul/97. Teck carried out geological mapping, geochemical sampling and trenching in 1997 and geological mapping, geochemical sampling and prospecting in 1998.
In Apr/98, Western Prospector Group Ltd staked Aussi cl 1-20 (YC08561) contiguously to the east of the Kiwi claims and the Bali cl 1-24 (YC08581), Fuji cl 1-32 (YC08605) and Maori cl 1-28 (YC08637) contiguously to the northwest.

Capsule Geology

Located during regional exploration in the area by Teck, visible gold was discovered during investigation of a 135 m long gossanous zone located on the western bank of Kiwi Creek. A selected grab sample from this zone (Discovery) of the VG showing, which is hosted by quartz stringers in silicified black shale, returned 115.6 g/t Au with 32.7 g/t Ag.
Limited outcrop, in this extensively till covered area, suggests that it is probably underlain by Ordovician to Silurian Road River Group clastic sedimentary rock consisting of graphitic shales with minor grit. The sediments are apparently overlain by volcanic rock of the mid-Cretaceous South Fork Volcanic Complex and consist of lithic tuffs and minor debris flows. Both the sedimentary and volcanic rocks have been intruded by quartz-feldspar porphyritic monzonite dykes and sills of uncertain affinity, which are probably Cretaceous aged.
Quartz stringers, stockworking and silicification are common in the Discovery zone where trenching has revealed two areas of veining near the VG showing, both of which are at or proximal to monzonite/shale contacts. One of the areas of veining returned 0.4 g/t Au with 0.2% As from a sample across 1.6 m that included hanging wall rock. The other area, found only in float, returned 115 ppb Au from from grab sampling. About 50% of the rock samples collected from the Discovery zone in 1997 contained >100 ppb Au and 40% of the samples contained >1 000 ppm As.
Followup of several low order Au, Ag and As anomalies identified through soil sampling revealed two other zones of alteration and mineralization. The North zone, 800 m north of the Discovery zone, is at the contact between a pyritized quartz-feldspar porphyry dyke and black shale exposed along a fault zone. While the New zone, 700 m west of the Discovery zone, contains drusy quartz stringers, minor silicification, pervasive clay to propyllitic alteration and pyritization +/- pyrrhotite. Samples from the North zone were not anomalous in Au but a sample of dyke material returned 730 ppm As. Maximum values from the New zone were 50 ppb Au with 2 320 ppm As from clay altered intrusive with a limonitic box work.
Prospecting also uncovered mineralization hosted by the shales which included pyritic quartz, quartz breccia with shale fragments, stringer stockworks and high level quartz vein material all of which returned generally low values, except for one value of 5.8 g/t Ag from the high level quartz vein material.
