Work History

First staked in Aug/60 as Pete cl (75156) by Canol Met ML. Restaked as Pete cl (Y13001) in June/66 by A. McLeod, and by Hudson Bay Mg as Hi cl (Y22001) in Aug/67, Min cl (Y28114) in Sept/68, Omo cl (Y41528) in Sept/69 and Lan cl (Y42389) in June/70. Hudson Bay explored with mapping and geochem sampling and one 10.7 m packsack hole in 1968, 2 holes (612.7 m) in 1969, hand trenching and 6 holes (334.7 m) in 1970, and 6 holes (477.8 m) in 1971 and sold its claims in 1976 to Placer Dev L & Essex Mls C, which added Clea cl (YA978) in Sep/76.
Yukon Revenue ML added on the He cl (YA11289) to the east in Sept/76. Placer and Essex explored with mapping and geochemical surveys in 1977, 21 holes (3230.9 m) in 1978, 8 holes (1280 m) in 1979, 33 holes (905.6 m) in 1980 and 5 holes (1616.1 m) in 1981.
Restaked by Placer Dome Canada as 182 Clea claims (YA00978) in Feb/94.

Capsule Geology

Two skarn showings occur about 1.6 km apart in Silurian or Devonian limestone and argillite near a stock which is 370 m in diameter.
The showing drilled by Hudson Bay in 1968-72 (Min & Omo groups), consists of almost massive pyrrhotite with minor amounts of chalcopyrite, scheelite and sphalerite in siliceous skarn within the large contact aureole around the stock. Host rocks are argillite and limestone of probable Silurian or Devonian age. The best core assays obtained by Hudson Bay were 1.4% WO3 and 0.2% Cu across 1.6 m in Hole 2 and 2.3% WO3 and 1.0% Cu across 2.2 m in Hole 3.
The Clea showing consists of scheelite, pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite in strongly deformed quartz-biotite-diopside-garnet skarn that occurs both in a hornfelsed roof pendant and in a complex contact setting above the flat-lying roof of the stock. Isoclinal folds with axial planes which strike northwest and dip southwest have repeated the 45.7 m thick calc-silicate unit at least eight times. All Placer and Essex drilling has been on the Clea. The only reported assays (1981) indicate intersections of 0.46% WO3 over 0.7 m and 0.19% WO3 over 2.6 m.
Both the Clea and Omo showings contain abundant vesuvianite, calcite and fluorite, an unusual assemblage for this type of occurrence. Both showings also have outer skarn alteration zones with narrow selvages containing cassiterite, molybdenite, and tin-bearing andradite and epidote.
