Work History
Staked initially in 1970 as the Brod claims by E. Brodhagen who did not file any assessment work. Restaked as Brod cl 1-8 (Y64018) in Jul/71 by Brodhagen who immediately optioned them to Wye Lake Resources Ltd. The company carried out a small geological mapping and rock, soil and silt sampling program later in the summer.
Restaked in Apr/74 as Reb cl (Y74687) by K. Colombo. Restaked as Bear cl 1-2 (Y84416) in Jul/75 by Brodhagen who hand trenched in 1976. Delphi Resources Ltd examined and sampled the claims in 1978 and Brodhagen carried out additional hand trenching in 1979-81 before transferring the claims to Exciting Resources Ltd in 1984.
A. Black staked Joy cl 1-4 (YA72108) 1.6 km south in Oct/84, trenched in 1985 and transferred the claims in 1987 to Prophesy Developments Ltd, which returned them to Black in Sep/88. Black prospected on the Joy claims and tied on Roy cl 1-4 (YB15883) in Aug/89, and Brad 1-4 cl (YB46269) in Sep/93. Black restaked the Brad claims as Brod cl 1-4 (YB84639) in Jun/96.
Restaked as Barry cl 1-4 (YB89859) in Aug/97 by A. Black, who hand trenched and sampled the occurrence in Oct/2000.
Capsule Geology
The area is located on the west side of the Hyland River, approximately 12 km north of the Hyland Airfield and 3 km east of the Nahanni Range Road. The area is situated within the northeast portion of the Selwyn Basin and is underlain by Upper Proterozoic to Lower Cambrian carbonate and clastic metasedimentary rocks assigned to the Hyland Group. The metasedimentary rocks are intruded by numerous mid-Cretaceous granitic intrusions and dykes.
The occurrence consists of interbedded phyllite and limestone that has been intruded by a microgranite or aplite dyke and altered to pyroxene skarn. The location of the skarn lens is marked by a large gossan which is visible from a distance. The lens measures approximately 17.4 m long by 3 m wide, contains minor quartz, epidote and calcite and hosts bands of sulphides consisting of pyrite, pyrrhotite, sphalerite, galena and traces of chalcopyrite. The lens strikes approximately east-west and dips to the north. A 1.5 m chip sample collected from the lens in 1978 returned 6.05% lead, 4.28% zinc, 67.2 g/t silver.
Black drilled and blasted a hand trench approximately 40 m long by 3 m wide and 1 m deep. Nineteen rock samples were collected for assay, geochemical analysis and microscopic examination. Details regarding sample type and/or widths were not reported, however the nineteen samples returned simple arithmetic averages of 2.6 % zinc, 4.47 % lead and 21.3 g/t silver.
