Work History
Staked as Charlie cl 1-12 (YB33736) by F. and T. Charlie and A. John Sr in Nov/90. In Jun/91 the group added Charlie cl 13-34 (YB33996). No assessment work was recorded on these claims and they were lapsed the following year.
Restaked within On cl 21-244 (YB62677) in Oct/95 by Cominco Ltd. Westmin Resources staked Toe cl 43-154 (YB63794) over top the same area but their application was withdrawn in Mar/96. Cominco flew a combined helicopter-borne EM/magnetic survey over their claims in March and April of 1996. Following completion of the survey, Cominco entered into a joint venture agreement with Westmin Resources Ltd and Atna Resources Ltd (Cominco 50%, Westmin 30%, Atna 20%) to explore On cl 21-101, 104-113, 116-129, 134-146, 162-173, and 197-198. In 1996 the joint venture carried out grid soil sampling, geological mapping and prospecting programs in the vicinity of the occurrence. In 1997 the group carried out an UTEM survey over the occurrence area (see Minfile Occurrence #105G 139 for other information concerning On claims).
Capsule Geology
The area is underlain by a layered sequence of Devonian to Pennsylvanian metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks belonging to the Yukon-Tanana Terrane (YTT). The YTT is a volcanic-plutonic, pericratonic arc assemblage that was strongly deformed and metamorphosed by late Triassic time. Volcanic hosted massive sulphide deposits exist at different stratigraphic positions within the YTT including the Fyre Lake deposit (Minfile Occurrence #105G 034) in Devonian Fire Lake mafic meta-volcanic unit, the Kudz Ze Kayah deposit (Minfile Occurrence #105G 117) in the Devonian Kudz Ze Kayah felsic meta-volcanic unit, and the Wolverine deposit (Minfile Occurrence #105G 072) within the Early Mississippian Wolverine Succession (Bond et al., 2002).
The occurrence is underlain by the Kudz Ze Kayah felsic metavolcanic unit. Younger Grass Lakes Succession rocks - Devonian to Mississippian quartzite, biotite-chlorite schist and carbonaceous phyllite, quartzite and minor quartzofeldspathic psammite - occur to the north and east. A northwest-trending normal fault lies to the southeast of the occurrence, juxtaposing Kudz ze Kayah metavolanic rocks against younger Devono-Mississippian carbonaceous phyllite (DMcp) to the west.
Cominco's helicopter borne EM/magnetic survey outlined a strong magnetic domain over the occurrence area. Grid-based soil sampling outlined a moderate-strength Pb-Zn soil anomaly in the same general vicinity. A follow-up UTEM ground survey reported only weak conductivity and no magnetic features in the area. These results led the joint venture group to concentrate their subsequent exploration efforts on the northeast side of the claim block (see Minfile Occurrence #105G 139).
