Work History
Staked as Dwonk cl (YA25521) in Sep/77 by a joint venture between Cyprus Anvil and Hudson's Bay O & GL, which explored with mapping and geochem sampling in 1977, mag and EM surveys in 1978, and 5 holes (891 m) in 1980.
Capsule Geology
The area is underlain by Devono-Mississippian Earn Group clastic rocks that were deposited in Selwyn Basin, a continental margin basin with thick sequences of black carbonaceous shales deposited in euxinic conditions. Deposition of the Earn Group marks the subsidence of the entire miogeocline, local uplift and faulting that caused the formation of localized secondary basins. Sedex mineralization occurs in close association with extensional tectonism.
Cream-weathering, massive, bedded barite up to 10 m wide with interbedded bands of pyrite up to 10 cm wide occur in an east-trending sequence of Devonian-Mississippian Earn Group clastic rocks in an area of extensive overburden. The 'black clastic' assemblage includes chert pebble conglomerate, black shale, chert and turbidite. Several EM conductors were outlined but magnetic and geochemical response were negative, and no base metal sulphides were intersected in the drilling.
