Work History

Staked as God cl 1-30 (Y7894) in May/66 following airborne mag and EM surveys by Atlas Explorations Ltd, which carried out geochemical sampling and mapping later in the year. Hudson Bay Exploration and Development Company Ltd staked Bev cl 33-88 (Y83522) 3.2 km to the west in Oct/74 following airborne surveys, and bulldozer trenched in 1976.
Cominco Ltd staked Nim cl 1-15 (YB51007) 2 km northwest of the map location in July/94 based on an airborne EM anomaly detected from a survey flown by the company. Cominco carried out a small exploration program later in the summer. In Jul/97 Cominco optioned the claims to Pacific Bay Minerals Ltd which carried out a reconnaissance exploration program later in the year. In Nov/98 Pacific Bay terminated its option and returned the claims to Cominco.

Capsule Geology

The Finlayson Lake district is underlain by the Yukon-Tanana Terrane: a Late Proterozoic to Paleozoic metamorphosed volcano-sedimentary assemblage. It is regionally bounded to the southwest by the Tintina Fault. This terrane hosts several known volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) deposits and occurrences, including Kudz Ze Kayah (Minfile Occurrence #105G 117), Wolverine (Minfile Occurrence #105G 072) and Ice (Minfile Occurrence #105G 118).
The area has not yet been re-mapped by the Yukon Geology Program. Comparison of field observations recorded by Atlas, Hudson Bay, Cominco and Pacific Bay, with compilation mapping by Gordey and Makepeace (1999), and detailed mapping completed by Murphy and Piercey (1999) to the southeast suggests that the area is underlain by a sequence of Devonian to Mississippian metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks which have not yet been assigned a specific succession.
The God claims were staked in an area of extensive overburden. Bedrock consists of a layered sequence of metamorphosed sedimentary and volcanic rocks. The sequence is flanked to the southwest by porphyritic biotite-quartz monzonite belonging to one of several possible Mississippian aged metaplutonic suites. Soil sampling outlined several Cu-Zn anomalies (highest value, Cu = 160 ppm, Zn = 174 ppm), none of which were judged important enough to warrant follow-up work.
Cominco staked the Nim claims to explore for volcanogenic massive sulphide mineralization similar to that found at Kudz Ze Kayah (Minfile Occurrence #105G 117). The claims are underlain by mafic metavolcanics and metasedimentary rocks. Staff described the sequence as consisting of variably iron carbonate altered, fissile chlorite feldspar+quartz phyllite and phyllitic schists with minor intercalated grey to black argillites. Soil sampling outlined several weak Cu anomalies (53-67 ppm). Prospecting failed to uncover any significant mineralization. Follow-up exploration work carried out by Pacific Bay identified weak, disseminated pyrite/pyrrhotite mineralization in two float samples of mafic metavolcanic rock, but geological mapping and prospecting failed to locate any economically significant mineralization.
