Work History
Staked in Aug/61 as Red cl (76787) by Cassiar Asbestos Corporation, which carried out hand trenching later in the year. Restaked in Mar/66 as Tintina cl (Y7768) by A. Racicot; in Jul/71 as Herb cl by H. Fichtner; and in Aug/74 as Jen cl (Y83192) by C. Benson.
Cominco Ltd restaked the occurrence as Nole cl 1-6 (YA21647) in Jul/77 and added Nole cl 7-9 (YA85508) in Aug/77, before carrying out geological mapping and geochemical soil sampling later in the year. Restaked as Val cl 1-10 (YB16497) in Sep/89 by Cominco, which carried out HLEM and magnetometer test surveying in 1990 and drilled 2 holes (213.3 m) in 1997.
Capsule Geology
Breccia and fracture-fill mineralization consisting of sphalerite and galena with variable amounts of pyrite occurs in a sandy dolomite unit that is up to 15 m thick. This unit is part of a sequence of complexly folded and faulted Cambrian to Devonian aged calcareous phyllite, Silurian dolomitic siltstone and Devonian to Mississippian graptolitic shale and grit. Sporadic mineralization can be traced for 2 km along strike.
A strong lead and zinc soil anomaly has formed over the mineralized zone. Soil sampling delineated a 1 000 by 100 m anomaly with >100 ppm Pb (up to 10 400 ppm) and >300 ppm Zn (up to 26 300 ppm) that is open along strike to the southeast.
In 1997, drilling tested soil anomalies and gossanous ferricretes to the southeast of the mineralized zone. Cominco reported that `no significant mineralization was intersected¿ in DDH NO97-02 which tested a sequence of carbonaceous and variably pyritic mudstones, siltstones and silty mudstones. No information was reported for DDH NO97-01, other than it was located somewhere upslope from DDH NO97-02.
