Work History

First claims in this area were Liard Lead (4249) in Jul/42 by R.C. Gamble, E. Hagen, and A.L. Reeve. The Mont cl (71462) were staked in Oct/55 by Newmont, which explored in 1956-57 with trenching and 7 drill holes (2156 m). The area was heavily fringe staked at this time by Conwest, Prospectors Airways, Newkirk Mining Corp, Normont Syndicate & Rainbow Copper Syndicate (E.H. Lorntzsen).
The showing was restaked in Jul/65 by G.E. Stephen as the Val and Rabo cl (89179) and has been optioned by Atlas EL in 1965-66, by Klondike EL in 1969 and by Wye Lake Resources in 1971. Airborne and ground geophysical surveys and geochemical sampling by Atlas are the only exploration work since 1957.
Restaked in Apr/73 by H.S. Aitkens and J. Melnychuk as S & J cl (Y72845), which were optioned briefly by Anglo-Pacific EL and Mountain Pass NL in 1973 and examined by DuPont EL in 1974.
Restaked as PJ cl (Y94446) in Dec/75, as Olga cl (YA21789) in Aug/77, as Jake cl (YA46292) in Oct/79 by J. Melnychuk; as Dave cl (YA67479) in Nov/81 by R. Close; as Chris cl (YA69997) in Apr/83 by J. Melnychuk; as Rad & AV cl (YA73650) in Aug/85 by W. Heshka; and as Old Gold cl (YB11536) in Jan/88 by Welcome North ML.

Capsule Geology

Chalcopyrite occurs with pyrrhotite, pyrite, bornite and calcite in en echelon lenses of white quartz within an east-trending shear zone at least one km long. The shear zone appears to mark the approximate contact between hornfelsed Cambrian phyllite and tuff to the north and limy sediments to the south. Both the thickness and grade are highly variable.
The main showing occurs about two km southwest of an intrusion. The drill holes all encountered scattered sulphides with low copper values. Mineralization is controlled by interbedded limestone and intricate folding. A sample from the most westerly trench assayed 1.8% Cu, 6.9 g/t Ag, and trace in Au & Zn over 3.7 m.
