Work History
Discovered and staked by A. Racicot for Conwest Exploration Company Ltd in Aug/55 as Ann cl (70930), which were allowed to lapse after a preliminary evaluation. Racicot restaked the showing in Aug/56 as Stormy cl (72666) and optioned these to a new company, Canol Metal Mines Ltd, which completed 320 m of drifting and 1,055 m of underground drilling (36 holes) during 1959. Fringe claims were acquired at this time by Stormy Mountain Mines Ltd, Little Hatchet Minerals Ltd, Chesterville Mines Ltd and Yale Lead & Zinc Mines Ltd.
The property was idle until May/66 when Racicot added Arlene cl (Y7926) and optioned it to Jason Explorers Ltd, which bulldozer trenched in 1968 and transferred the claims to a subsidiary, Napoli Exploration Ltd.
Restaked as PM cl (Y93766) in Sep/75 by P.S. White and M. Sherman, who sampled and added more PM cl (YA974) in Sep/76, and explored with mapping, geochemical and radiometric surveys in 1977.
The claims were sold to Rio Alto Exploration Ltd in Mar/79 and optioned to E & B Exploration Ltd, which tied on the MP cl (YA36053) in Mar/79, rehabilitated and bulk sampled the underground workings in 1979-80 and explored with geochem and geophysical surveys and 690 m (8 holes) of underground drilling in 1980. The MP claims were transferred in Nov/88 to M. Sherman who did mapping in 1989.
The deposit was restaked as Orb cl 1-4 (YB56495) by G. Macdonald in Oct/94. B. Macdonald restaked the deposit as Orb cl 1-24 (YB60279) in Aug/95. Later in the same month G. Macdonald staked C cl 1-4 (YB60280) 2 km to the west and ST cl 1-12 (YB60295) 3 km to the southeast. The Orb claims were transferred to Sunstate Resources Ltd who performed prospecting, soil sampling, mapping, trenching and road building in 1995 and 1996. The property was optioned to SRR Mercantile Inc. who did more soil sampling in 1997.
Restaked as A cl 1-4 (YB92564) in Dec/99 by D. Moreau.
Capsule Geology
Molybdenite occurs with lesser amounts of scheelite in an elongated, wedge-shaped zone 2 to 2.4 m thick and up to 107 m long within a garnet-diopside-pyrrhotite skarn zone 3 to 6 m thick. The deposit formed in Lower Cambrian limestone, in a shallow-dipping contact aureole above the Rose Lake Stock. In 1959, W.E. Field estimated a probable reserve of 13,390 tonnes grading 0.73% Mo, or 15 268 tonnes grading 1.05% WO3 in two partly coincident zones.
The 1967-68 bulldozer work explored the contact for a length of 914 m and located at least three additional small occurrences of molybdenite. The 1980 geochem sampling located 10 small new scheelite and molybdenite occurrences, which were tested with 5 holes. The best intersection returned 0.35% WO3 and 0.005% MoS2. The other 3 holes tested the main occurrence and confirmed the reserve assays.
