Work History
The early history of this property has been lost. An old adit on the property was probably driven in the early 1900¿s, when the area was extensively prospected for lode mineralization in conjunction with nearby placer mining. The earliest lode claim records found are for P. Sharpe's Dark cl, staked in Jul/33 and Kasseska cl (19253), which was trenched in 1938. J. Stenbraten staked Paystreak cl in Jul/43.
Recent staking consists of Float cl 1-4 (Y61041) in Jul/71 by J. Greer, which were restaked as Gold cl 1-4 (Y4630) in Jun/76 by G. McCully, and as Horseshoe cl 1 (YA48274) in Oct/79 by G. Elliott and A. Serafinchon, who trenched in 1980. G. Asuchak tied on Lodi cl 1-2 (YA78271) to the south in Aug/83, which were restaked as Bumb cl 1-2 (YA82823) in Aug/84 by D. Redden. G. Clark tied on RG cl 1-16 (YA93841) to the north in Oct/85 and trenched in 1986.
Archer, Cathro and associates subsequently acquired control of the Horseshoe claim, added Liv cl 1-20 (YA78029) in Jul/83 and carried out rock sampling, geological mapping and excavator trenching later that year. The property was sold to All-North Resources Ltd in 1986, which carried out trenching, and was optioned briefly in 1987 to Aurich Resources Ltd, which conducted linecutting. O. Hansen staked Axes cl 1 (YB26476) 3 km to the west in Aug/89. Renoble Holdings restaked the original property as Dixie cl 1-16 (YB27485) in May/90.
Restaked by L. Carlyle and M. Fuerstner Jr, as part of a large block of claims parallel to the South Big Salmon River valley; Cam cl 1-126 (YB97530) were staked in May/97; Cam cl 127-142 (YC07943) were staked in July/97; and Cam cl 143-146 (YC08748) were staked in May/98. Carlyle and Fuerstner carried out geochemical rock and soil sampling, EM and magnetometer surveying in 1997; geochemical rock and soil sampling and bulldozer trenching in 1998; geological mapping, limited geochemical rock and soil sampling and EM geophysical surveying in 1999; and geochemical rock and soil sampling, VLF surveying and machine trenching in 2000. Carlyle staked Cam cl 147-154 (YC40012) approximately 2 km to the south of the occurrence location in Jul/2005 and Cam cl 157-214 (YC40019) contiguously to the east of the existing claim block at the same time. Limited magnetometer surveying and soil sampling were carried out during this period.
Capsule Geology
Gold occurs in foliaform quartz-sulphide veins within metasedimentary rocks tentatively assigned to the Paleozoic aged Snowcap Complex, which is thought to form the basement to the Yukon-Tanana Terrane. Quartzite, psammitic schist, carbonaceous phyllite and chlorite schist are exposed on alpine ridges along Livingston Creek. The metamorphic rocks are cut by strongly foliated and locally gneissic metaigneous rocks consisting of tonalite to granodiorite of probable Mississippian age, which occurs as one large sheet exposed to the east of the Cam claims and occasionally as dykes within the metasedimentary rock.
A pile of mineralized vein quartz at the portal of the caved adit averaged about 2.1 g/t Au and 41.1 g/t Ag. Selected specimens of leached and oxidized material containing visible fine-grained galena average about 41.1 g/t Au, 363.4 g/t Ag, 5.4% Pb and 0.1% Cu. Trenching showed that the adit was about 15 m long and that it followed a north-trending quartz vein which is terminated by a fault. Wallrocks consist of talc schist and quartzite.
The vein mineral assemblage includes gold, pyrite, chalcopyrite, galena, hessite, tetradymite, Au-Ag tellurides, tennantite, hematite, pyrrhotite, quartz and carbonate. Gold occurs as free gold in the quartz gangue, as inclusions in galena, and as minute grains associated with chalcopyrite and galena in aggregates of coarse grained pyrite. Stroink & Friedrich (1992) compared the chemistry, mineralogy and fluid inclusion characteristics of the veins and placer nuggets in Livingstone Creek and concluded that the placer gold in the creek is derived from the quartz-sulphide veins in the metamorphic bedrock.
Trenching in 1998, by Carlyle and Fuerstner, north and east of the adit exposed limonitic and iron stained quartz-secitie and chlorite schist that contained several narrow zones of galena mineralization. A composite grab sample of this material assayed 32.16 g/t Au. In 2000, further trenching and sampling was carried out in the vicinity of the adit. A trench completed approximately 100 m south of the adit returned an average of 2 805.8 ppb Au from two samples (grab?) collected selectively throughout the trench.
