Work History
The occurrence is located at the northwestern end of the Whitehorse Copper Belt, an area which has been constantly explored since the early 1900's. Early work history/staking records for the area are sketchy but it seems certain that the first prospectors arriving at the beginning of the century explored and staked claims in the immediate area.
In Sep/63 H. Fromme staked the occurrence within the Jean claims. Restaked as Man cl 1-16 (Y18150) in May/68 by Ambassador Mines Ltd which flew an airborne magnetometer and electromagnetic survey later in the year. In Sep/68 O.J. Johnson staked OJ (fractional) cl 1-4 (Y26020) on the east side of the Jean claims. Johnson later transferred the claims to P. White.
Restaked as We cl 19-34 (Y66018, not consecutively numbered) in Dec/71 by Whitehorse Copper Mines Ltd. In 1972 the company carried out an IP geophysical survey over the claims and drilled two diamond drill holes (253.14 m) on We claims 20 and 22/29.
In Aug/77, OJ fractional claim #2 was tested by a single diamond drill hole (68.74 m). In Jul/80 Whitehorse Copper Mines Ltd drilled 1 diamond drill hole (178.95 m ) on Jean cl 28, located approximately 2 km to the south.
Restaked as Hat cl 1-20 (YB57537) in May/95 by R. Hamel who added Hat cl 21-36 (YB58021) in Aug/95. In Jan/96 the Hat claims were transferred to Northwest Enterprises Inc and in Jul/98 a 50% interest in the claims was transferred to Kluane Drilling Ltd.
Capsule Geology
The occurrence located at the northern end of the Whitehorse Copper Belt and is underlain by a sequence of Late Triassic Lewes River Group clastic sediments, comprised primarily of greywacke, argillite, sandstone, mudstone and tuff with intercalated limestone and a thick bed of Triassic limestone (Hart, 1997). Approximately 400 m south of the occurrence, these units have been intruded by a mid-Cretaceous biotite-hornblende granodiorite belonging to the Whitehorse Plutonic Suite. A late Paleocene biotite granite belonging to the Nisling Range Plutonic Suite intrudes the sequence less than a kilometre to the west.
Prospecting carried out by Whitehorse Copper Mines on the We claims located several pieces of skarn float that assayed up to 3% Cu (Tenney and Jutronich, 1973), and an IP anomaly that was drill tested (Hureau, 1973). The drill holes intersected argillite and quartzites, locally calcareous.
Drilling on the OJ #2 fractional claim intersected diorite and limestone (Hilker, 1977). Whitehorse Copper Mines¿ single drillhole on the Jean Claim intersected a number of diorite -granodiorite dykes, hornfelsed sediments and weak skarn material (Hureau, 1980).
