Work History
Discovered by W.P. LeBarge, a DIAND geologist, in 1988 during reconnaissance mapping of the area and staked as DG cl 1-16 (YB24658) by D. McDonald in Dec/88. Restaked as Mike cl 1-6 (YB27105) by G. Reynolds in Jan/90 who carried out prospecting and geochemical sampling.
The occurrence was restaked as Mike cl 3-4 (YB58019) by J. Clarke in Aug/95, who added Mike cl 1-2 (YB66369) and 5-8 (YB66371) to his claim holdings in Oct/95. Clarke carried out prospecting, hand trenching and chip sampling in 1996 and prospecting, hand trenching and grid development in 1997.
Capsule Geology
Chalcopyrite and malachite occur in narrow east-west veins which outcrop on the shore 2 km northwest of Marsh Lake Marina and are hosted by Permian to Triassic aged andesitic volcanic rocks and cherty sediments of the Cache Creek Terrane. The volcanics have been intruded by mafic to ultramafic dykes, pods and sills. A series of strong parallel faults have been identified in the area and the `Highway Fault¿ which follows the baseline of the claims occurs along the contact of the volcanics and the cherty sediments.
In 1996 and 1997 Clarke hand trenched on this structure in an area of outcrop comprised of a mixture of mafic volcanic flows, tuffs and chert that displayed pervasive listwaenite alteration, brecciation and quartz veining. Chip samples across the width of the outcrop (~ 9 m) returned anomalous Au and pathfinder elements.
