Work History
This showing was staked in 1905 and possibly worked about 1920, although early records have been lost. A 10 m adit was driven in the 1950's and a large dump indicates some underground workings. Restaked as Art claims (Y93092) in Mar/75 by TRV Mls L, which drilled one hole (18 m) in 1975 and 3 holes (155 m) in 1979.
Restaked as Rat claims (YA86457) in May/84 by McCrory Holdings L, which performed mapping, trenching and sampling in 1985. The Rat group was transferred to Anooraq Res Corp in 1987, which performed trenching and soil geochem in 1988. Partially restaked as Rat claims (YB12725) in Dec/87 by L. Barrett. Golden Feather Mines (subsequently Feather Gold Resources Ltd) added more Rat claims (YB13101) in Mar/88. In 1990, Feather Gold performed VLF-magnetometer and geochemical surveys on the Rat claims followed by an extensive bulldozer and backhoe trenching program.
Capsule Geology
The showing occurs in Cretaceous granodiorite which intrudes Paleozoic? volcanic rocks and Jurassic Laberge Group sedimentary rocks. Along the contact between the volcanic and sedimentary rocks, the volcanics are flow banded and extensively brecciated. TRV reported veins of grey and white quartz up to 1125 m long and 12 m wide containing arsenopyrite, pyrite, galena, sphalerite and chalcopyrite with bleached alteration zones. The best drill intersection graded 2.12 g/t Au and trace Ag over 3.65 m.
Specimens taken from old trenches in 1985 assayed up to 21 g/t Au and 129 g/t Ag. An old trench on the southwest part of the Rat claims was reopened in 1990, exposing galena-bearing float which assayed 14.8 g/t Au, and a quartz vein which assayed 7.2 g/t Au over an apparent width of 0.45 m.
