Work History
Staked as Mur cl 1-16 (YA4560) in Jun/76 by J. Cutler. Restaked as Bacchus cl 1-8 (YA61427) in Jun/81 by Valor Ventures Ltd. A. Hargrave staked Bell cl 1-6 (YA61441) 1.6 km to the east at the same time.
Restaked as Mom cl 1-89 (YA81761) in May/84 by McCrory Holdings Ltd, which optioned the claims to Carmac Resources Ltd following a property visit in Jul/84. Carmac carried out prospecting, geological mapping and geochemical rock, silt and soil sampling in 1985 and geochemical rock and soil sampling in 1986 before dropping the option.
Berglynn Resources Ltd subsequently acquired the property and carried out geological mapping, VLF-EM surveying and geochemical sampling in 1987. Skukum Ventures Inc staked Berg cl 1-162 and Majour cl 1-16 (YB07446) to the south-southeast in Aug/87 and later formed a joint venture with Berglynn to consolidate their claim holdings in the area. Skukum Ventures was renamed Skukum Gold Inc in Mar/88 and later that year carried out prospecting, geological mapping and geochemical sampling of the Berg claims. In Apr/88, J. Moreau staked Craig cl 1-26 (YB13673) 4.7 km southeast of this occurrence location and carried out hand trenching and geochemical sampling in 1989 and geological mapping and geochemical rock and soil sampling in 1990.
Berglynn changed its name to Arkona Resources Inc in Mar/92 and in 1994 Arkona formed a new joint venture with No. 276 Taurus Ventures Ltd, a private B.C. company, thereby allowing it to increase its interest in the property and contiguious claims. Omni Resources Inc optioned the property in 1995 and by 1999 Omni had earned a 60% interest in the property and purchased Taurus Ventures 10% interest, subsequent to Arkona transferring 100% ownership of the property to Omni on July 23/99.
In Nov/2000 Omni amalgamated with Trumpeter Yukon Gold Inc to form Tagish Lake Gold Corporation.
Capsule Geology
The original property is underlain by a roof pendant of Upper Proterozoic to Paleozoic schist and gneiss on the margins of a mid-Cretaceous granodiorite pluton. Several quartz veins are exposed on upper Antimony Creek, 500 m southeast of the old Porter Mine. These veins are drusy and exhibit colloform textures. They strike subparallel to the intrusive contact, dip 30° N and are up to 30 cm wide. Most are barren but galena and sphalerite are occasionally present. A 30 cm chip sample assayed 0.21 g/t Au and 0.3 g/t Ag.
Soil sampling outlined two areas of anomalous gold, silver, copper and lead, with gold values up to 680 ppm. Anomalous antimony values up to 3 600 ppm were obtained in the extreme northeast corner of the claim block, at the head of Antimony Creek.
The Berg claims cover a lead-antimony silt anomaly. Cretaceous granitic intrusions with roof pendants of Paleozoic? schist and gneiss are cut by Eocene aged feldspar porphyry plugs and rhyolite and andesite dykes. A few quartz-sulphide veins on the property are associated with silica, siderite and propylitic alteration zones in the granite. The Stormy zone consists of several quartz veins in the centre of the property with minor chalcopyrite, galena, pyrite, sphalerite and stibnite. The veins are hosted in a 3 m wide zone of silicified and propylitically altered granite. The zone strikes northwest and dips moderately northeast. Specimens contained up to 62.4 g/t Ag, 8 494 ppm Pb, 4 303 ppm Cu, 3 841 ppm Zn, 912 ppm As and 1 385 ppm Sb.
The Craig claims are underlain by the mid-Cretaceous Mt. Anderson pluton with is composed of hornblende granodiorite. The claims were staked to cover silver bearing galena-sphalerite-quartz veins discovered during a government mapping program in 1987. Six, north trending and westerly dipping veins, each up to 0.2 m thick occur within the host granodiorite which is variably silicified and iron stainied in the immediate vicinity of the veins.
