Work History
Staked as Wheeler, Bandwagon, Leader, etc cl (9573) in Sep/06 by C.I. Burnside, C.J. Irvine and L. Belney (Tally-Ho boys) and acquired by Tally-Ho Mg CL in 1921. Tally-Ho maintained 8 of the original claims as Crown Grants until 1967 when they were purchased by H. Johannes. Development work consisted of two adits at the 4200 ft (1280 m) and 3950 (1204 m) elevations. The 4200 Level consists of 213 m of drifts and x-cuts and several short (15 to 23 m) raises driven between 1909-21. The 3950 Level includes about 137 m of adit and 46 m of x-cut. A number of hand-sorted shipments were reportedly made to the Tacoma Smelter although only one has been documented - 13.3 tonnes grading 80.2 g/t Au, 174.9 g/t Ag and 6.9% Pb in the winter of 1917-18. The property was taken to lease in 1928.
Optioned by Silver Pack ML, which added Alta cl (Y8085) in May/66, partially rehabilitated the two old adits and drilled 460 m (5 holes) from the lower adit in 1966 and drilled two holes on surface in 1967. After that option lapsed, the old claims were optioned to Yukon Revenue ML in 1971.
Optioned in 1983 by Tally-Ho EL, which added TH, Rob, etc cl (YA77848) in Jun/83 and explored with mapping, geochem, mag and EM surveys, trenching and underground rehabilitation in 1983-84 and road construction plus 6 diamond drill holes (305 m) in 1986.
M. Barker tied on the Barr cl (YA82151) to the west in Jun/84 and performed geological mapping in 1986. E. Bergvinson staked the RM cl (YA94645) also to the west in May/86. In 1987, Skukum Vent L optioned the Barr, RM & TH groups and performed mapping and geochemical sampling, while Academy Res L optioned Tally Ho's claims and explored with mapping and sampling. Skukum Vent L changed its name to Skukum Gold Inc in 1988 and explored the RM and Barr cl with mapping, prospecting and soil sampling later that year and in 1989. The Rob claims were transferred to Adda Mls L in Dec/89.
G. Clark and Associates restaked the RM and part of the Barr claims as 58 Guybill claims (YB 35524) in October, 1990.
Capsule Geology
Mineralization occurs with Eocene porphyry dykes in a brecciated fault zone cutting Cretaceous granodiorite. The zone is 1.2 to 3.7 m wide and contains lenses of quartz with disseminated galena and pyrite.
The grab sample of galena and pyrite taken by MacLean in 1912 from the main adit assayed 24.0 g/t Au and 92.6 g/t Ag. The 1917-18 shipment assayed 80.2 g/t Au, 174.9 g/t Ag and 6.85% Pb. Five grab samples collected during adit rehabilitation in 1966 averaged 20.6 g/t Au, 144.0 g/t Ag and 6.8% Pb.
No mineralization was cut by the 1966-67 drilling and the 3950 Level workings reportedly failed to intersect the ore zone found in the upper level. Tally-Ho's trenching and drilling returned disappointing results but prospecting in 1988 located float up to 5301 g/t Ag.
Soil sampling on the Barr and RM claims produced a few weak to moderate anomalies. Malachite, azurite, chalcopyrite and pyrite were found in propylitically altered grains at the southwest corner of the claim block (Eagle showing) and a northeast-trending quartz vein cutting diorite contained chalcopyrite, malachite and pyrite (Hawk showing) which returned values up to 0.58 g/t Au, 42.9 g/t Ag, 6286 ppm Cu and 445 ppm Pb.
On the southwest corner of the Barr claims, Skukum Gold found molybdenite rosettes up to 5 cm across with disseminated chalcopyrite in northeast-trending quartz veins cutting foliated quartz diorite (the Moly showing). Sphalerite and chalcopyrite occur in the quartz diorite, both disseminated and along fractures. Gold-bearing quartz-calcite float containing galena and up to 2.8 g/t Au was found northeast of the Moly showing, where the Tally-Ho Shear Zone passes through the property.
