Capsule Geology

Coal float occurs at two poorly exposed bedrock locations on the river bank. Observed dips are less than 10°. The seams are 0.3 to 0.4 m thick and associated with carbonaceous clay and coaly shale. The coal is Upper Paleocene or Lower Eocene in age and of lignite A and B rank. Tertiary sediments in the Watson Lake basin exhibit upwards fining and thinning and resemble point bar sequences produced by meandering streams.
