Work History
Discovered by H. Gabrielse and S.L. Blusson of the Geological Survey of Canada during a regional geological mapping project undertaken in 1967.
L.C. Pigage (Yukon Geological Survey) and R.B. MacNaughton (Geological Survey of Canada) completed a short geological mapping program on topographic map sheet 095D/8 in Jul/2003. Fieldwork by Pigage continued in 2004 & 2005. The program was intended to clarify geological relationships implied from earlier regional geological mapping completed by Gabrielse and Blusson.
It appears the area has never been staked.
Capsule Geology
Some uncertainty exists regarding the description and original location of this occurrence. Gabrielse and Blusson's geological map locates the occurrence on the south side of an unnamed creek while their structural (map) symbols suggests that they traversed along the north side of the creek. In addition their map suggests that the occurrence is hosted within unit 4b, Lower Cambrian sediments while the accompanying paper reports that malachite staining and, in places, blebs of chalcopyrite appears to be common in all of the volcanic rocks present in the map area.
A thorough investigation by Pigage and MacNaughton (2004) failed to locate any mineralization at the original locality. Pigage (pers. comm., 2005) did document volcanic rock enclosed by Cambrian to Ordovician sediments both upstream and downstream from the occurrence location. At these new locations Pigage observed malachite staining and chalcopyrite blebs in porphyritic basalt. The volcanic rocks occur as distinct horizons within the Upper Cambrian to Lower Ordovician Crow Formation (Pigage, 2009).
