The occurrence is underlain by Jurassic foliated granodiorite and leucocratic quartz monzonite, intruded by plugs and dykes of Cretaceous dacite porphyry. The Ribbon zone is currently described a porphyry style molybdenum mineralization. The name derives from the ribbon like appearance of the veins.
In 2010, a broad area (>500 m by 1000 m) of silica-clay-sericite-pyrite alteration of intrusive rock was mapped and corresponds to a weak Au and Mo anomaly in soil. Grab samples from 2010 returned values of up to 1835 ppm Mo.
