Work History
Originally staked as Verlene cl (12244) in Jul/12.
In Sep/71 Hart River Mines Limited staked Car cl 1-64 (Y62104) immediately to the south. The company carried out soil sampling and prospecting in 1972.
M. Nichiorick staked Tim cl 1-32 (Y77079) 6.4 km to the southeast in Sep/73 and J.B. O'Neil staked Delta cl 1-32 (Y77460) 9.6 km to the southeast in Oct/73. Both claim groups are located on adjoining topographic map sheet 115I 07.
J.B. O'Neil staked Ozark cl 1-24 on the northwest boundary of the lapsed Car claims in Oct/73.
Restaked as HI cl 1-70 (YA7646) in Aug/76 and fractional cl 71-78 (YA8197) in Sep/76 by United Keno Hill Mines Ltd, which performed mapping and geochemical surveys in 1976 and IP and resistivity surveys in 1977. The company staked Fil cl 1-128 (YA49219) cl 129-136 (YA51008) and cl 137-248 (YA49355) 1 km to the southeast in May and Jun/80. In the spring of 1981 United Keno Hill Mines flew a regional airborne magnetic and EM geophysical survey over the Hi and Fil claims. The company followed up with geological mapping and a large soil sampling program later in the year. In 1982 the company dug 15 bulldozer trenches on the Hi claims and 10 trenches on the Fil claims. United Keno Hill Mines Ltd restaked Hi cl 15-70 (YB25731) in Mar/89.
S. Ryan staked Spring cl 1-6 YC46788) 2 km to the southwest in Apr/2006. In Sep/2006 Ryan collected 3 soil samples and prospected a historical showing located at the southeast end of the claim block. In Nov/2006 Ryan optioned a 100% interest in the Spring claims and 14 other neighbouring claim groups to BCGold Corp in return for cash, shares and certain work commitments.
Capsule Geology
The area is located on the northwest shore of Big Creek approximately 25 km northwest of Western Copper Corporation's Carmacks Copper Project (Minfile Occurrence #115I 008). The area is located on the boundary between the Yukon-Tanana and Stikinia terranes. Based on Colpron's 2006 map the occurrence site likely lies in the Yukon-Tanana terrane.
The area is covered by deep overburden and outcrop is sparse. Gordey and Makepeace (2003) released a geological compilation of the Yukon which covered this area. According to this compilation the occurrence lies at the boundary between Early Jurassic foliated and non-foliated granodiorite assigned to the Granite Mountain batholith and volcanic rocks, minor conglomerate and other clastic rocks assigned to the Upper Cretaceous Carmacks Group.
The Car and Ozark claims are reported to have been explored with widespread soil sampling and prospecting surveys but no assessment work appears to have been filed. United Keno Hill Mines reported that the area was mainly underlain by massive granodiorite containing pockets of weakly foliated granodiorite. A few scattered outcrops of volcanic rock were noted across the area and conglomerate was reported to overlie the granodiorite along the northeast corner of the Hi claim block.
United Keno Hill Mines located weak copper mineralization in a northeast trending weakly lens of foliated biotite hornblende granodiorite located at the southeast end of the HI claim block. The copper mineralization in the form of malachite measured up to 6 m wide and returned values ranging from 100 to 2 800 ppm copper and trace amounts of silver and gold. A small induced polarization survey conducted over the area did not return any anomalies. Soil sampling on the Fil claims outlined numerous spot copper anomalies. Follow-up trenching failed to uncover any substantial mineralization.
Ryan staked the Spring claims over malachite mineralization previously discovered on the HI claims. The prospecting and minor soil sampling did not return any anomalous results.
