Work History
S. Ryan staked Hen cl 1-60 (YC21990) to the southwest in Oct/2002. Ryan staked the occurrence within Hen cl 61-98 (YC22251) in Nov/2002. Ryan also staked Hen cl 103-132 YC22291), cl 139-148 (YC22321) and cl 155-302 (YC22331) later in the month. Ryan immediately optioned the claims to Copper Ridge Explorations Inc as part of Lucky Joe option agreement (Minfile Occurrence #115O 051) located 20 km to the north. In Feb/2003 Copper Ridge optioned the claims to Kennecott Canada Exploration Inc which carried out a reconnaissance soil sampling and prospecting program later in the year.
Kennecott dropped its option in Jan/2004 and returned all of the Hen claims to Copper Ridge. In Jun/2004 Copper Ridge carried out a large reconnaissance and grid based soil sampling program on the Hen claims. Copper Ridge carried out grid based soil sampling over part of the Hen North target area in Jun/2005. In the fall of 2005 Copper Ridge terminated its option on the Hen claims and returned them to S. Ryan who allowed the claims to eventually lapse.
Capsule Geology
The occurrence area is located approximately 7.5 km northwest of the junction between Henderson and North Henderson Creeks in west central Yukon. The area was mapped at 1:100 000 scale in the early 2000’s by Ryan and Gordey (2004) of the Geological Survey of Canada. A larger scale (1:250 000) compilation was released in 2005 by Gordey and Ryan. According to Gordey and Ryan the occurrence area is underlain by a basal sequence of Devonian to Mississippian metasiliciclastic and amphibolitic rocks that have been intruded by intermediate to mafic orthogneissic rocks.
Ryan staked the Hen claims based the results of a low-level airborne aeromagnetic survey conducted jointly by the Geological Survey of Canada and the Yukon Geology Program (now the Yukon Geological Survey) in 2000 (Shives et al. 2001). The aeromagnetics show that the Hen claims are underlain by a north-westerly trending aeromagnetic high which geologists interpreted to represent amphibolite and which Ryan thought might host a possible extension of mineralization discovered and drilled on the nearby Lucky Joe Property (Minfile Occurrence #115O 051).
Kennecott’s 2003 regional soil sampling program outlined numerous moderate copper, molybdenum and lead spot anomalies. In 2004 Copper Ridge soil sampled six areas across the claims and identified scattered anomalies for copper, zinc, gold and molybdenum. Anomalous gold (weak) and copper (locally strong) values were not coincident suggesting two sources. Actual outcrop on the claims is quite scarce (likely less than 5%) thus no detailed mapping was carried out. Instead Copper Ridge examined pebbles recovered during soil sampling to verify local geology.
In 2005 Copper Ridge soil sampled six short lines across the occurrence location which they labeled Hen North. Results ranged from 13.4 ppm to 701.6 ppm copper and from below detection to 14.2 ppb gold. The highest copper and gold values were returned from the same sample which also contained the highest zinc (230 ppm) and highest nickel 117.1 ppm) values. The anomaly measures approximately 500 m long by 200 m at its widest point.
