Work History
Discovered by Thorkelson and Wallace during government mapping program in 1992. The occurrence has never been staked.
Capsule Geology
The occurrence is located at the eastern headwaters of an unnamed creek which flows southwest into the Bear River approximately 7.5 km northeast of the Bear River airstrip. L.H. Green of the Geological Survey of Canada mapped the area at 1:250 000 scale in 1961 as part of a helicopter-supported party known as "Operation Ogilvie". D. Thorkelson (2000) a geologist with the Canada/Yukon Geoscience Office (now part of the Yukon Geological Survey), remapped topographic map sheet 106D/16 in the 1990's as part of a larger bulletin on the Wernecke Mountains. Gordey and Makepeace of the Geological Survey of Canada, released an updated geological compilation of the Yukon in 2003.
The occurrence consists of polymetallic veins crosscutting Lower Proterozoic Basal Gillespie Lake Group rocks. Enrichments of copper (5.1%), antimony (2 500 ppm) and bismuth (700 ppm) were reported for one sample (Thorkelson and Wallace, 1994b, pg. 89). The veins at this occurrence may extend discontinuously toward the Reid occurrence (Minfile Occurrence #106D 096) which hosts north trending veins of similar metallic signature, 6 km to the north.
