Capsule

Work History

Staked as Phil cl 1-8 (Y26905), Joan cl 1-8 (Y26913), Bar cl 1-8 (Y26921) and Ker cl 1-8 (Y26929) in Aug/68 by M. Dube. In Sep/69 Dube filed for $800.00 worth of assessment credit (trenching) on each of the Phil, Joan and Bar claims.

Capsule Geology

The occurrence is located on the northeast side of the northern branch of Little Wind River, approximately 15 km southeast of Mount Fitzgerald. The area was regionally mapped by L. Green (1972) of the Geological Survey of Canada in 1961 as part of a helicopter-supported party known as Operation Ogilvie. Although the area has not yet been remapped by the Yukon Geological Survey, C. Roots of the Geological Survey of Canada under contract with the Exploration and Geological Services Division (now part of the Yukon Geological Survey) remapped topographic map sheets 106D/8 and 106D/7 (East half) to the southeast in 1990. D. Thorkelson (2000) also under contract with Exploration and Geological Services Division remapped topographic map sheet 106D/16 to the north as part of a larger bulletin. The work of these geologists was incorporated into a geological compilation of the Yukon released by Gordey and Makepeace of the Geological Survey of Canada in 2003.
According to Gordey and Makepeace the occurrence area is marked by an unconformable contact between Lower Proterozoic argillite and phyllite assigned to the Quartet Group, part of the larger Wernecke Supergroup and upper Cambrian to lower Devonian dolomite. Gordey assigns these lower Paleozoic rocks to the Bouvette assemblage while Thorkelson suggests that they might belong to the Slats Creek formation (?).
No records can be found regarding the trenching carried out by Dube. According to the Geological Survey of Canada Paper 62-7 (p. 20), chalcopyrite and specular hematite have been reported in minor amounts in Proterozoic rocks, especially near the unconformity with overlying Paleozoic carbonate rocks and that is possibly the reason for this staking.
