Work History
Staked as Unexpected cl (1234) in Sep/08 by J. Graham, who put in an open-cut and 3 m adit by 1912. Restaked as Surprize cl (YA9565) in Oct/76 by Ukon JV (Chevron & Kerr Addison) which explored with grid geochemical and radiometric surveys in 1976, 1977 and 1978, bulldozer trenching in 1977 and 1978 and a radon survey and 411 m of drilling (9 holes) in 1978, when the property was enlarged to 200 claims. Further radon and scintillometer surveys were conducted in 1979.
Partially restaked as Hun cl (YA79929) in Aug/84 by a joint venture between United Keno Hill ML and Falconbridge. J. Alton tied on Henry cl (YB23419) in Mar/89. The Henry cl were transferred to Kennecott Canada Inc. in May/93 as part of an option agreement.
Capsule Geology
The Surprize claims cover an unmapped 6 km x 3 km porphyry stock of probable Eocene age. It exhibits round quartz eyes in an aphanitic ground mass and contains traces of purple fluorite, topaz and miarolitic zeolites. Disseminations and discontinuous stringers of fluorite are inferred to have been produced by late or post-magmatic streaming of volatiles (Mortensen et al., 1992). Uranium anomalies occur within and near the contact of the stock, with values of up to 400 ppm U from organic soils. The best rock assay was 90 ppm U from leached Klondike Schist. Radon gas anomalies appear to be fault controlled.
The open cut on the Unexpected claim exposed a purple-stained quartz porphyry plug that assayed 1.4 g/t Au and 2.1 g/t Ag across 0.9 m. A grab sample collected in 1972 assayed 0.102 g/t Au, 1.4 g/t Ag and 4.12% F. According to the GSC, wood tin was recovered by placer miners from creeks draining the porphyry body and is associated with topaz, fluorite and tourmaline in most placer and eluvial samples collected over the porphyry.
