Work History
Staked as Buc cl (Y73913) in Aug/73 by Hudson Bay Mining & Smelting Ltd, which carried out geological mapping and sampling.
Restaked as Com cl 60-75 (YA35751) in Nov/78 by the Wolf Lake Project (Complex Resources International Ltd and Dayton Creek Silver Mines Ltd) which reported a small mineralized occurrence in the Cassiar Batholith.
Restaked as SH cl 1-196 (YA721587) in Dec/84 by A.W. Hyde, T. McCrory and B. Preston, who optioned it to Silver Hart Mines early the next year. The occurrence was re-discovered in 1987 by B. Fowler of Silver Hart who renamed it the Orly and Hots showings and mapped and sampled it
Restaked as Orly cl 1-2 (YB34967) in Jul/92 by the W4 Joint Venture, which prospected later in the month. The W4 Joint Venture returned to the area in 1994 and explored the neighboring Blue zone (Minfile Occurrence #105B 020) but did not perform any work on the Orly claims.
In Feb/98 Nordac Resources Ltd thought it had restaked the occurrence within Heaven cl 1-80 (YB91140), however a GPS survey later in the year showed that the occurrence was located on open ground. Nordac restaked the occurrence within Heaven cl 81-92 (YB91396) in Jul/98. The company explored with prospecting, geological mapping, trenching and grid soil sampling in 1998. In 1999 and 2000 Nordac explored veins located on other parts of the Heaven claim block. No work was conducted in the vicinity of this occurrence.
In Jun/2001 Nordac re-organized and changed its name to Strategic Metals Ltd. The following year Strategic carried out power auger sampling, hand trenching and prospecting programs on the northern half of the claim block in the vicinity of the neighboring Night occurrence (Minfile Occurrence #105B 020). No work was carried out in the vicinity of this occurrence.
Capsule Geology
The original occurrence is described as thin and discontinuous quartz veins carrying pyrite and galena within high fractured granite belonging to the mid-Cretaceous Cassiar Batholith. The veins strike 110 degrees, dip 45 degrees northeast, extend approximate 3 m in length and have maximum thickness of 15 cm. Considerable mineralized rubble was observed beneath the showing.
Silver Hart Mines appears to have re-discovered the occurrence in 1987. Fowler described two veins which he called the Orly showing (northernmost) and the Hots showing. The veins which were located approximately 100 m apart consisted of two quartz veins containing galena and sphalerite cutting coarse grained granodiorite. The veins are exposed over a 9 m strike length and are cut by two large cross faults, one of which offsets the veins about 6 m to the left. A specimen taken in 1987 assayed 8 571.2 g/t Ag, and chip samples assayed 2 077.7 g/t Ag over a true width of 21 cm from the Hots vein and 2 022.8 g/t Ag over 24 cm from the Orly vein.
In 1992 the W4 Joint Venture inspected the Orly zone and found that all of the old workings were obscured by a slump. However a single float sample assayed 0.10 g/t Au, 104 g/t Ag, 0.08% Pb and 16.5% Zn.
Nordac Resource¿s 1998 exploration program included a compilation study of all work reported in the area covered by the Heaven claim block. This study reported that the Heaven claims hosts 3 kinds of mineralization; 1) W-Cu skarn mineralization. 2) Ag, Pb and Zn veins in northeast-trending quartz veins and 3) Carbonate Replacement deposits, defined as Pb, Zn and Ag replacement mineralization which occurs at the intersection of the northeast-trending veins and a thick, southeast-trending belt of carbonate rich metasediments. Based on metal prices (at the time) and mineralization grades, the company identified 5 high priority targets; The H and Blue zones comprising high grade Ag, Pb and Zn veins and the Desire, Triump and Faith zones comprising Pb, Zn and Ag replacement mineralization. These zones are all associated with the Night occurrence (Minfile Occurrence #105B 020) located 5 km to the northeast.
Although not judged a high priority the Orly North and South zones were trenched, soil sampled, geologically mapped and sampled by Nordac. Nordac reported that the Orly North zone consisted of three prominent northeast trending depressions located in and beside Orly Creek. The best assay came from a 5 cm wide quartz vein containing galena, sphalerite and native silver. A specimen returned 3 748.3 g/t Ag, 8.87% Pb and 5.9% Zn. Approximately 35 m downstream the company discovered a 10 x 15 m area of strongly manganese and limonite stained float. A grab sample of this material returned 64 g/t Ag and 12.3% Zn. A hand trench was dug across a linear depression at the top of the float train but no mineralization or significant structure was exposed.
The Orly South zone consists of three quartz veins that cut coarse grained granodiorite and contain galena and sphalerite in a quartz carbonate gangue. The veins strike 60 degrees and dip 35 to 45 degrees to the northeast. A excavator trench dug east of Orly Creek uncovered a 15 cm wide quartz vein which returned 1 675 g/t Ag, 15% Pb and 3.9% Zn. A sample of massive galena found in the creek just below the trench returned 5 063.2 g/t Ag and 59.7% Pb. Grid soil sampling along strike from this zone returned background values. Airphotos reveal a several strong, northeast-trending linear depressions but prospecting failed to identify any mineralization.
