Capsule

Work History

Lignite float was noted in the vicinity of Babbage River by Sir John Franklin in 1826. This target lies in a large area withdrawn from staking in July, 1978 pending creation of a National Wilderness Park, settlement of native land claims, and development of a management plan for the Porcupine Caribou Herd.

Capsule Geology

The coal float is probably derived from the Tertiary Moose Channel Formation, a sequence of weakly compacted mudstone, sandstone and conglomerate, or the Upper Cretaceous Boundary Creek Formation, which includes bituminous shale and bentonite.
