Work History
First noted in 1978 by geologists conducting regional reconnaissance for Baltic Drilling Ltd, but apparently not staked.
Staked as Karen cl 1-8 (YA32582) in Jun/79 by Jade Drilling Ltd and optioned to Milchem Inc, which carried out hand trenched, drilled 13 holes (451.8 m) and collected a 450 kg bulk sample in 1980.
Restaked as Jade cl 1-8 (YC20570) in Dec/2000 by Cash Minerals Ltd, which carried prospecting, geological mapping, hand trenching and collected a 500 kg bulk sample in 2001.
Capsule Geology
Massive barite is exposed in outcrop and in float over an area 80 m long and 20 m wide. It occurs as a northeast dipping lense with minor disseminations and layers of calcite and dolomite and is hosted within Upper Cambrian to Lower Devonian grey and buff-weathering dolomite and limestone of the Bouvette Formation. Occuring along the crest of a low ridge, it forms a wedge-shaped body up to 15 m thick by 40 m long.
Milchem's sampling of drill core from the seven holes that intersected the mineralized zone returned a weighted average specific gravity of 4.04 g/cm3 from a total of 166, roughly 3 m long, sections. No sulphide minerals are present in the barite.
Three representative specimens collected by Cash Minerals contained 88.4 to 96.5% barite (52 to 56.8% Ba) with specific gravities ranging between 4.18 and 4.45 g/cm3. At the time of reporting no analyses had been completed on the material comprising the bulk sample.
