Work History
Staked as G.C. cl (YA47945) in Oct/79 by H. Algottson, who trenched with a bulldozer in 1980 in conjunction with nearby placer work. The adjoining Dawson cl (YA79469) to the south and Crazy cl (YA79611) to the west were staked in Oct/83 by Texoro Res L and Eastern ML, respectively, both of which performed mapping, sampling and an airborne EM survey in 1984. W. Dawson tied on Snake cl (YA84563) in Sep/84 and conducted mag and VLF surveys in 1986 and 1986.
Restaked as Hawk cl (YA88021) in Aug/86 by W. Hawkes. Airborne VLF and magnetic surveys were conducted over the entire area in 1986 and 1987, and grid soil sampling was done on the Crazy cl in 1986. Hawkes performed bulldozer trenching in 1988, then entered an agreement with Arbor Resources Inc. which conducted 381 m of rotary drilling (5 holes) in 1990. The Hawk cl were transferred in Jan/91 to Arbor Res L, which trenched and diamond drilled 8 holes (623.3 m) on the Hawk 57, 155 and 157 claims in 1992, added two JAD 1-2 fractional claims (YB40660) to cover a narrow sliver of open ground between the Dawson and Hawk claims in May/92, and performed 10.9 km of resistivity surveys. Kennecott Canada Inc. optioned the Snake claims in May/93.
Capsule Geology
The property is centred on Trail Hill, and is underlain by graphitic Nasina Series quartz-muscovite schist and quartzite with fault slivers of serpentinite. These rocks are intruded by Cretaceous quartz-feldspar porphyry and diabase dykes. Schist adjacent to the dykes is hydrothermally altered to clay and propylitic assemblages, and pyrite is common in both dykes and wallrocks. A thick section of unconsolidated White Channel gravel covers most of the property, but in places, placer mining has created good bedrock exposure.
Soil sampling on the Crazy claims outlined an area of weakly anomalous gold, silver, arsenic, mercury, lead and copper values. The most anomalous value was 17.4 ppm silver.
Mapping in 1990 identified an extensive zone of hydrothermal alteration where a thrust fault is cut by a diabase dyke. The rotary drilling tested the alteration zone, and did not penetrate beneath it. All of the holes were barren of gold, but ICP analyses of the cuttings returned anomalous values for arsenic (up to 1 358 ppm), tungsten (up to 27 ppm), and thallium (average 15 ppm).
A 30 cm quartz vein tested by one of the 1992 drillholes contained minor galena, but assays were disappointing.
