Work History

Staked as Rose cl (526) in Apr/1901, General Custer cl (1935) in Jun/1901 and as Asbestos cl (6326) in Oct/02 by A.R. Thompson. Restaked as AN LAS cl (6701) in Jun/03 by Lizzie Schmidt, who hand trenched in 1903-06 and surveyed in 1906. She sued YCGC in 1907 over alleged damage caused by a broken water line and lost the claims at a sheriff's sale in Mar/08, who sold them to E. Simpson in 1909.
Restaked as AN LAS cl (11979) in Aug/10 by S. Thurber, who restaked as Star cl (12586) in Jul/16 and explored with 47 m of drifting and 21 m of shaft sinking in 1917-23. J. Bruhalski tied on King cl (12595) to the south in Aug/16 and filed 43 m of drifting and two shafts (7.6 m and 8.5 m) between 1917 and 1931.
Restaked as Asbestos King, etc cl (57699) in Sep/51 by J. Adams and J. Babwik. Restaked as Ricky cl (78082) in Jun/56 by E. Martens and optioned by Yukon Cons Gold Corp, which cut 9 bulldozer trenches and drilled one hole (28.3 m) in 1957.
Restaked as Sun cl (Y37745) in May/69 by L. Brown. C. Ashley staked CYA cl (YA84474) 1.6 km to the east in Aug/84.

Capsule Geology

Chrysotile fibres up to 6 m long occur in widely spaced, erratic cross fibre and slip fibre veins in a serpentinite body that extends from the base of the landslide on the outskirts of Dawson City to the top of Midnight Dome. The serpentinite is medium green, partly sheared and has a characteristic 'cobweb' pattern of black lines (iron stains) on weathered surfaces. Most of the chrysotile occurs as spiky coatings on fracture surfaces and grades are generally very low. Two rock quarries have been operated at the base of the mountain to obtain fill used for dyke and road construction at Dawson City. Some of this material grades up to 1% chrysotile.
