Work History
Staked as White Rock cl (11620) in Dec/09. Restaked as Rosebush cl (78057) in Jul/56 by A. Sansoucy; as Tin and Tina cl (Yl5993) in May/69 by F. Roberts; and as Surprize cl 1-219 (YA9565) in Oct/76 and 1977 by Archer Cathro and Associates Ltd for the Ukon Joint Venture (Chevron Canada Ltd & Kerr Addison Mines Ltd), which carried out soil geochemical and radiometric surveying in 1976 and 1977. In 1978, Ukon Joint Venture (UJV) carried out soil sampling, geological mapping, radiometric surveying, bulldozer trenching and drilled 9 holes (411 m). UJV carried out radon gas surveying on the western portion of the claim block and geological mapping, soil panning and radiometric surveying on the northwestern side of the block in 1979.
L. Rambaraw staked the Lindsay cl 1 (YA10105) 1.5 miles south in May/77, possibly in connection with nearby placer work. S. Wooten and associates restaked the fringe claims to the south as Pup, etc cl (YA31824) in Sep/78 and added more claims in 1979 and 1980.
Restaked as Acrete cl 1-14 (YA84082) in Jun/84 by Nordac Mining Corp, which carried out trenching, geological mapping and sampling in 1985. Restaked again as Germ cl 1-24 (YB23373) in Nov/88 by G. Carlson (50%) and Golden Rum Resources Ltd (50%). Noranda staked Rabt cl 1-8 (YB23365) to the west in Dec/88 and staked Rabt cl 9-35 (YB23427) in May/89. Noranda optioned the Germ claims in Jun/89 and carried out geological mapping and geochemical (rock and soil) sampling that year. The Germ claims reverted back to Golden Rum (50%) and G. Carlson (50%) in Feb/90.
Restaked as Brik cl 1-28 (YB67979) by Balaclava Mines Inc in Mar/96, which carried out geological mapping and limited geochemical (rock and soil) sampling later that year. In Sep/97 the claims were optioned to Radius Explorations Ltd which staked Brik cl 29-66 (YC04766) later that month and carried out geological mapping, prospecting, geochemical (rock, soil and heavy mineral) sampling, magnetic and IP geophysical surveying and excavator trenching. In 1998, Radius carried out diamond drilling of seven holes (375 m) before dropping the option.
Capsule Geology
Chalcedony veins up to 10 cm wide and zones of chalcedonic breccia are associated with a clay-altered quartz-feldspar porphyry stock of Eocene age. The veins and breccia zones cut felsic lapilli tuff, volcanic breccia and underlying pebble and cobble conglomerate and altered serpentinite between the mouths of Germaine and Goring Creeks. Wall rocks and breccia fragments are intensely kaolinized and silicified. The veins and alteration zones, which consist of quartz, sericite, ankerite, magnetite and pyrophyllite, are variably anomalous in As, Hg, Sb and Tl, but rarely anomalous in precious metals.
Abundant cassiterite found in placer gravels suggests a fumarolic source for the tin, which probably formed as colloform aggregates in vugs and vesicles in rhyolite porphyry. Fluorite and topaz are common accessory minerals in the porphyry. Highly kaolinized porphyry assayed up to 100 ppm Sn compared with only 7 ppm in unaltered porphyry.
Exploration in the 1970's was directed towards uranium potential within the stock, following the discovery of anomalous uranium contents in water of the creeks draining the area.
Mapping in 1989 outlined a 800 x 700 m quartz-carbonate altered ultramafic body on the northeast part of the property. Rock samples from this unit contained up to 1 336 ppm Ni and 80 ppb Au. The samples with anomalous gold were concentrated along an intensely altered northeast-trending zone which may be a fault.
Work in 1996 focused on the gold potential of the area and Balaclava identified a zone of epithermal style alteration coincident with a vegetative kill zone along the margin of a distinctive aeromagnetic low near the ultramafic body. Geochemical sampling confirmed previous exploration results and returned peak values of 272 ppb Au, 548 ppm As, 6 ppm Bi, 13 ppm Sb and 3 ppm Hg from soil samples, although values for gold from rock sampling were generally low (less than 20 ppb).
Results of the 1997 program identified magnetic anomalies and an IP chargeability-resistivity anomaly that is closely coincident with an Au-As-Sb soil anomaly in an area underlain by the ultramafic body near the margin of the Tintina Fault Zone. Extensive and frozen overburden hampered exploration and data interpretation. Diamond drilling completed in 1998 showed, that gold mineralization was low grade and restricted to the ultramafic rocks, that the ultramafic rocks are bounded by subhorizontal thrust faults and that the thrust fault is underlain by schist containing abundant graphite that explains chargeability anomalies detected in the area.
