Work History

Staked as Aus cl 1-32 (YB04454) in Oct/87 by Noranda Exploration Company Ltd, which carried out geological mapping and geochemical sampling in 1988; added more claims and carried out geological mapping, geochemical soil sampling and geophysical surveying in 1989; and line cutting, IP surveying and Kubota trenching in 1990.
In Jul/95 Orinoco Gold Inc optioned the remaining claims and staked Aus cl 53-55 (YB54208) on the northwest side of the claim block. The company staked Orin cl 1-42 (YB6736) on the west side and Occo cl 1-60 (YB54376) on the east side of the Aus claims in Sep/95 and carried geochemical soil sampling on the Occo and Orin claims in Aug/96. In the fall of 1996, the company followed up with more trenching and reverse circulation drilling of 8 holes (500 m)
A private company, Core Exploration Ltd, as part of an ongoing program throughout the surrounding region, staked a large block of 300+ OB claims (YC03280, cl 206) to the north of the Aus claims in Oct/96. Over 3500 claims were staked throughout the region by Core Exploration as part of the Oki Doki project, before the project was subsequently optioned to another private company International Kodiak Resources Inc. In the summer and fall of 1997 International Kodiak carried out a regional program of geochemical stream sediment sampling of secondary drainages, soil sampling of drainage divides, prospecting, geological mapping and airborne geophysical surveying (in conjuction with the Geological Survey of Canada).
International Kodiak staked On cl 1-256 (YC05829) 3 km south of this occurrence location in Oct/97 and staked Bang On cl 1-33 (YC06731) 1.5 km to the south in March/98. During the summer of 1998 the company carried out geochemical stream sediment and contour soil sampling over areas located south of this occurrence and in 1999 carried out geochemical grid soil and rock sampling and hand pitting on the Ob claims.
In 2000, International Kodiak extended the soil sampling grid on the Ob claims and carried out detailed geological mapping and machine trenching.

Capsule Geology

The occurrence covers a mid-Cretaceous Tombstone Suite quartz monzonite intrusion that cuts fine grained siltstone, shale and chert of the Ordovician to Lower Devonian aged Road River Group. Gold occurs in quartz-arsenopyrite-pyrite-pyrrhotite veins, quartz-actinolite veins, and steeply dipping hornfelsed sedimentary rocks located on the margins of the intrusion.
Noranda outlined a 1 800 x 800 m gold-arsenic soil anomaly, in the center of the claims, with values up to 1 000 ppm As, 250 ppm Sb and 880 ppb Au. The anomaly coincides with a magnetic low overlying the multiphase intrusion. Gold and arsenic background values are elevated at the contact between the hornfels and the altered intrusion, and also along faults which cut the intrusion.
Quartz vein float assayed up to 2.84 g/t Au, and a value of 3.66 g/t Au was obtained from a calc-silicate outcrop outside the main anomalous area. Kubota trench #7 in 1990 exposed 2 metres of hornfels at the intrusive contact which averaged 1 673 ppb Au.
Orinoco¿s soil survey outlined 3 areas slightly anomalous in Au, As and Sb. The anomalies probably relate to the nearby hornfelsed sediments. The GSC airborne geophysical survey outlined the location of the intrusion.
Orinoco¿s drill holes were collared within a 1 300m by 250m gold and arsenic soil anomaly which the company trenched prior to drilling. One of the trenches returned 1.8 g/t Au over 13 m . Complete trench and drill results were never officially released.
International Kodiak¿s On and Bang On claims extend south onto younger Earn assemblage metasediments. The metasediments which are likely Upper Devonian to Mississippian in age consist of laminated slates, chert-quartz arenites and wackes, chert pebble conglomerates, black siliceous siltstones, nodular and bedded barite and rare limestone. Kodiak¿s stream sediment and soil sampling program outlined elevated Au values from the Lost Horses Creek area and from the west flank of the Hobo Creek Stock.
Kodiak¿s work 4.5 km north of this occurrence, on the Ob claims, led to the identification of a previously unmapped mid-Cretaceous quartz monzonite plug that intrudes Road River group metasediments. A 400 by 600 m area containing anomalous gold values was identified in the vicinity of Ob cl 206. The peak values returned from soil sampling in this area were 564 ppb Au, 2 100 ppm As, 98.46 ppm Bi, 51.81 ppm Sb and 3 396 ppb Hg. Machine trenching, limited by topography, was followed by detailed rock sampling did not return any significant base or precious metal values.
