Work History
Yukon Gold C drove an adit over 275 m long from the base of the hill in 1915-16 to serve as a drain for placer tailings from a hydraulic mining operation on Oro Fino Hill. No records of early lode claims have been found.
Restaked as Synd, Dawson & '83' cl (YA79198, YA79509 etc) in Oct/83 by Arbor Res L, Ebony Gold Corp and Falmouth Mls L, which explored with geochem, airborne Input EM, VLF-EM and IP surveys and drilled 2 holes (about 200 m) in 1984 on claim '83'-31. Faith ML optioned 50% of Arbor's interests in Jun/89 and performed geochem surveys and trenching later that year.
In the fall of 1990, a joint venture consisting of Ebony Gold and Klondike Reef Mines conducted an IP and resistivity survey on the Dawson 9-12 and '83' 21-22 claims. The '83' 1-40, Dawson 1-140 and Dawson 201-248 claims were optioned to Kennecott Canada Inc in May/93.
In 1994 Kennecott carried out a large program of ground geophysics, auger soil sampling, prospecting, sampling and mapping on Arbor's holdings. In Jan/95 Kennecott dropped its option. In Jan/96 Arbor Resources changed its name to Klondike Gold Corp.
Capsule Geology
Oro Fino Hill is composed of the Permian Klondike Schist Assemblage including, quartz and feldspar augen-bearing quartz-muscovite schist (unit Psa) overlain by rusty quartz-muscovite and muscovite-quartz schist (unit Psqm). Minor carbonaceous phyllite occurs near the contact between the two units. Mineralization was intersected by an adit driven by Yukon Gold Corporation in 1916 to provide a drain for placer tailings from workings on Oro Fino Hill. Several shallow southwest-dipping graphitic shears that parallel the dominant foliation in the rocks are present near the portal. Networks of stringers and narrow veins (to 15 cm) occur within and near these shears. The veins consist of clear to milky quartz and ferroan carbonate and contain traces of pyrite. Occasional narrow stringers of clear quartz contain up to 15% very fine-grained sulphides that occur as small knots. The sulphides consist of fine-grained intergrowths of galena, arsenopyrite and pyrite.
Ray reported grains of a material tentatively identified as a Pb-Sn-Au alloy showing indistinct exsolution textures in placer deposits at the foot of Monte Cristo Hill about 500 m downstream from the Oro Fino occurrence. Although he considered the material to be a natural alloy, it is possible that it was soldered gold flakes.
The 1984 holes tested coincident IP/EM anomalies and intersected micaceous schist with disseminated pyrite. The 1987 trenches and drill holes cut quartz stringers with base metal sulphides, but precious metal contents were low.
In the Boulder Creek area (southeast corner Dawson claims), Kennecott in 1994 discovered weakly mineralized quartz vein float boulders which assayed up to 0.14 g/t Au, 40.6 g/t Ag and 210 ppm arsenic. No follow up work was carried out.
