Work History

Staked as Centennial cl (6583) by A. Johnson and J.H. Richardson in March, 1903. Restaked as HF cl (Y82497) in May, 1974 by H.C. Fromme.

Re-staked as Bon cl 109-116 (YA84633) in June, 1984 by a joint venture between United Keno Hill Mines Ltd. and Falconbridge Ltd. The joint venture drilled a large number of percussion drill holes throughout the Klondike later in the year, but none were collared near this occurrence. The closest drill holes were collared at MINFILE occurrence 115O 087 located approximately 3.5 km to the southeast.

Faith Mines Ltd. tied on Top cl 1-8 (YB31025) and cl 16-34 (YB31033) to the northeast in July, 1990. Faith dug four trenches on the Top claims in 1992. The company also collected a line of soil samples between the heads of Homestake and Gauvin Gulches located approximately 2 km to the northwest on the Reef claims (owned by Arbor Resources Ltd.).

Wealth Resources Ltd. purchased a 50% interest in the Top claims in September, 1992. In May, 1993 Arbor Resources Ltd .(the parent company of Wealth Resources and Faith Mines) optioned most of their Klondike regional claim holdings including the Top, Cab and Reef claims to Kennecott Canada Inc.

In 1994 Kennecott Canada Inc carried out a large program of ground geophysics, auger soil sampling, prospecting, rock sampling and mapping on the optioned claims. In Jan/95, Kennecott dropped its option. In Jan/96 Arbor Resources changed its name to Klondike Gold Corp.

Re-staked as LC cl 1-57 (YB68582) and 71-74 (YB68639) by Barramundi Gold Ltd. in March, 1996 which carried out a regional geological mapping and silt sampling program later in the year.

Re-staked within Klondike cl 1-29 (YC16216) in May, 1999 by Barramundi Gold Ltd. In July, 1999, the company optioned their entire Klondike regional claim holdings to KSL Exploration (Yukon) Ltd, a private company owned by Klondike Source Ltd. of Australia. KSL Exploration carried out regional soil sampling and prospecting programs in 2000 and 2001. In 2002, the company completed a compilation study of all available geological and geochemical data and undertook a review of all geophysical data including a recently released regional airborne geophysical survey jointly funded by the Geological Survey of Canada and the Yukon Geology Program.

Capsule Geology

The area is underlain by the Permian Klondike Schist Assemblage. Quartz-muscovite-chlorite schist (unit Psq) and minor interlayered chlorite schist (unit Psc), are overlain to the southeast by rusty weathering muscovite-quartz schist (unit Psqm). Unit Psqm has returned middle Permian isotopic ages of 261 and 263 +/- 4 Ma (Mortensen, 1996). Old newspaper accounts report that a gold-bearing quartz vein was discovered on the Centennial No. 1 claim in 1906, but this was never confirmed.

Two of the four trenches dug by Faith Mines on the Top claims, uncovered sheared but barren, chloritic quartzite. The remaining two trenches targeted a 5 m wide silicified breccia that returned moderate anomalous amounts of gold (85 ppb max). Soil sampling on the adjoining Reef claims returned a maximum of 35 ppb gold.

In the vicinity of this occurrence, Kennecott collected a couple of rock samples from Upper Bonanza road and from an access road located north of the occurrence. None of the samples were anomalous.

Barramundi gave the area surrounding the occurrence a cursory examination, but did not collect any samples. KSL Exploration collected a line of soil samples from the drainages located east and west of the occurrence (lines 93 and 95). The samples were analyzed using Mobile Metal Ion (MMI) geochemistry; a method thought to enhance weaker or more dispersed anomalies. The eastern line returned a weak, multi-station gold anomaly while the western line returned a strong, single station gold anomaly. Neither of the anomalies were judged important enough to receive follow-up work.
