Work History
Staked as the Marguerite cl in 1898. The J. Ladue Gold Mg & Dev C installed a 10 stamp mill on the property later in the year. Restaked as Emma, etc cl (289A) in Dec/00 by J.J. Putraw, who sank a 64 m shaft in 1901. Restaked in Aug/04 by J.A. Scougale as Victoria, etc cl (6976), which were explored with a 12.2 m adit in 1905.
Restaked in Jun/84 as Hun cl (YA83834) by a joint venture between United Keno Hill ML and Falconbridge L, which drilled a fence of percussion holes (371.9 m) about 0.8 km east later in the year and added more Hun cl in Sep/88. Arbor Res L (60%) and Dawson Eldorado ML (40%) staked DE, etc cl (YB05138) to the south and southwest in May and Nov/88 while D. Waugh staked Royos cl (YB23213) to the south in Oct/88. The DE claims were explored by mapping and geochem surveys in 1989. The Betsy 1-4 cl (YA80516) were transferred to Kennecott Canada Inc. in May/93 as part of an option agreement.
C. Little added the Star 1-38 cl (YB45368) to the west of the Hun claims in Aug/93. In Jun/94, under a option from Little, Faith Mines Ltd. carried out a detailed soil geochemical survey over the southern end of the property. In Apr/95 the Star claims were transferred to Faith Mines Ltd.
Capsule Geology
The area is underlain by strongly sheared and deformed Nasina series carbonaceous phyllite and fine-grained quartzite (DMsqc) containing abundant barren quartz stringers and local disseminations of pyrite. Immediately south of the occurrence, a thrust fault places mid Permian Klondike schist assemblage chlorite schist and micaceous quartzite (unit Psc) onto the carbonaceous sequence.
Early work was directed toward gold-bearing quartz veins. An 1899 newspaper account reported that an assay of 92.6 g/t Au had been obtained from a quartz vein on the Marguerite claim but this was never substantiated.
The 1984 drilling intersected 6.1 m grading 0.37 g/t Au and 8.4 g/t Ag on the Hun 144 cl but other holes returned low values. Faith Mines directed its efforts towards a northwest-trending thrust fault which is thought to be a possible conduit for placer gold in the area. A total of 150 soil samples were collected at 25 m spacing from two lines located on top of a bench overlooking Hunker Creek. The area directly over the thrust fault was not sampled due to placer activity. Each sample was tested by fire assay for Au and by 32-element ICP. None of the samples returned anomalous values.
