Work History

Staked as Nug cl (Y65405) in May/72 by Sullivan and Rogers and optioned by a joint venture between Anglo American and Exploram, who performed a magnetic survey and mapping in 1973-74. Restaked as Dawson & 83 cl (YA79281) in Sep/83 by Perron Gold Corp and Texoro Res L, which explored with geochem and airborne EM surveys in 1983 and mag and VLF-EM surveys in 1986.
In fall, 1990, a joint venture consisting of Ebony Gold and Klondike Reef Mines conducted IP and resistivity surveys on the Dawson 9-12 and Ebony 21-22 claims. The Dawson 1-140 and 201-248 claims were transferred to Kennecott Canada Inc in May/93 as part of an option agreement. Kennecott carried out geological mapping on the Dawson claims in 1993 and re-processed helicopter geophysical data previously flown over the claims. In 1994 Kennecott explored airborne magnetic anomalies with ground magnetic surveys, followed by auger soil sampling. In Jan/95 Kennecott dropped its option. In the same month, the Sury claims were transferred to Sultan Minerals Inc. In Jan/96 Arbor Resources changed its name to Klondike Gold Corp.

Capsule Geology

The area is mainly underlain by quartz and feldspar augen-bearing quartz-muscovite schist of the Permian Klondike Schist Assemblage (unit Psa), cut by pyritic porphyry dykes and narrow quartz veins. The augen schist is interpreted to be a felsic metaporphyry, and narrow discontinuous bands of carbonaceous and rusty weathering felsic schist within this unit are thought to represent deformed pendants and screens within the intrusive body.
The 1990 geophysical survey tested IP and resistivity responses in an area of known placer potential.
Soil geochemistry conducted in 1993 by Kennecott Canada Inc showed that the area of the Sury and Dawson claims was anomalous in base and precious metals. Re-processing of previous geophysical data outlined a strong magnetic high in the Sourdough Gulch area. Ground magnetic surveys associated the anomaly with a previously unmapped, magnetite-bearing hornblende-biotite granodiorite intrusion. Prospecting and mapping indicated the presence of pyritic, hornfelsed schists around the intrusion. The hornfels are cut by a diverse suite of mafic and felsic dykes emanating from the intrusion. Rock samples from the hornfels returned weakly anomalous Au values. The best assay was 0.68 g/t Au from a quartz-pyrite stringer.
Kennecott drilled a total of 215 auger holes ( 1 m in depth) over the magnetic anomaly and identified a discontinuous +10 ppb Au anomaly on the southern flank. Three trenches over the soil anomaly produced intermittent quartz-veined quartz muscovite schist. One sample of schist returned a weakly anomalous assay of 85 ppb Au. A fourth trench across the centre of the magnetic anomaly exposed deeply weathered, barren granodiorite.
At the 77 Pup area located 1.5 km north of Sourdough Gulch, Kennecott outlined two small airborne magnetic anomalies. Ground magnetic surveys further delineated the anomalies. Prospecting and mapping
identified several northeasterly striking magnetite-bearing feldspar-hornblende-biotite porphyry dykes in the area. Fifty three auger soil samples collected over the anomaly were barren.
