Work History
Staked as Flume cl 92-153 (YC12443) in Sep/98 by Phelps Dodge Corporation of Canada Ltd, which carried out reconnaissance geochemical sampling at that time. Phelps Dodge carried out grid geochemical soil sampling, prospecting and geological mapping in 1999 and additional geochemical sampling and trenching in 2000.
Capsule Geology
The area is underlain by Devonian, Mississippian and possibly older (?), quartzite orthogneiss and thickly layered marble of the Yukon Tanana Terrane which have been intruded to the north and east by a mid-Cretaceous aged biotite-quartz monzonite stock and later quartz feldspar porphyry dykes.
An extensive area of high Au (to 1 317 ppb) and As (to 2 490 ppm) concentrations in soil was identified by Phelps Dodge in 1999. Sampling was concentrated on two separate grids, known as Grid A (Minfile Occurrence #115N 10) and Grid B (this occurrence) and the strongest anomalies were followed up by trenching.
Trenching of the main anomaly on Grid B to test for a bedrock source of sphalerite and galena-bearing boulders previously located, exposed gold, arsenic, lead and zinc mineralization associated with skarn alteration in marble that is interbedded with quartz-mica schists. Three or four poorly defined silicified felsic intrusive dykes, 10 cm to 1 m wide, were also exposed in the thrench (TR5).
The trench was sampled on two and three metre intervals over 41 m and two consecutive chip samples across skarn and dyke returned 1 199 ppb Au with 261 ppm As over 6 m, high levels of Pb, Zn and Ag were also returned from these samples.
