Staked as Santa cl 1-24 (Y56885) in Jul/70 by Atlas Explorations Ltd and explored by soil sampling and prospecting.
Restaked as Nora cl 1-16 (YB4394) in Oct/87 by M. Elson.
Restaked as She cl 21-36 (YB41206), the more easterly of two groups of She claims (1-36, YB41198) in Jul/92 by S. Savage, who explored with trenching in Jul/93. In Jul/99 the claims were optioned by Great Northern Group Inc. The claims lapsed at the end of Dec/2000.
Restaked within CH cl 1 -182 (YF25501) in Sep/2011 by Coureur des Bois Ltee Ltd which collected 1 line of reconnaissance soil samples along Christmas Creek. In 2012 the company carried out detailed soil sampling in the south-central portion of the property and collected 3 lines of reconnaissance soil samples north of the detailed soil grid. The company also re-analyzed 41 pulp samples from samples collected in 2011 and collected 32 rocks samples from within the area covered by 2012 soil sampling program.
In 2015 Coureur des Bois extended the soil grid northward to cover soil anomalies detected in 2012. Three east-west soil lines were sampled along the northern boundary of the CH claim block to test for the southeast extension of Metals Creek Resources’ Exploits zone found on the adjoining Squid East property (Minfile Occurrence #115N 096) located approximately 3.5 km to the north. The company also collected rock samples from soil pits, road cuts and a single outcrop.
On December 19, 2016 Strategic Metals Ltd announced a spin-out transaction to segregate some of its assets into a separate company to be called Trifecta Gold Ltd. One day earlier Trifecta Gold acquired an option to acquire a 100% interest in the CH claims from Coureur Des Bois for shares. Coureur Des Bois retained a 2 % net smelter return (NSR) for any precious metal commercial production and a 1 % NSR for any non-precious metal commercial production.
On Dec 15, 2016 Trifecta Gold optioned a 75 % interest in the neighboring Squid East and West (Minfile Occurrence #115N 100) properties from Metals Creek Resources Corp in return for cash, shares and certain work commitments. The agreement was conditional on Trifecta Gold obtaining a listing of the company’s shares on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSE) – Venture Exchange on or before June 30, 2017. Strategic Metals shareholders approved the arrangement on April 21, 2017 and on June 15, 2017 shares of Trifecta Gold were listed on the TSE – Venture Exchange. At the same time Trifecta staked Squid cl 1-95 (YF52681) to the west and south. Trifecta renamed the consolidated claim package the Trident project. In Mar/2017 Trifecta Gold added Squid cl 196-388 (YF52816) to the south.
In 2017 Trifecta Gold collected additional soil samples on the Squid East and West claim blocks. The company also collared 5 diamond drill holes (546.5 m) on the Exploits zone located within the Squid East claim block located approximately 3.5 km to the north. No appreciable work was carried out on the CH claims.
On December 15, 2017 Trifecta Gold dropped its option on the Squid East and West properties and returned the properties to Metals Creek Resources. The company continues to hold the CH claims.
GEOLOGY
The CH claims are located in west-central Yukon approximately 80 km southwest of Dawson City, Yukon and 18 km east of the Alaskan-Yukon border. Access to date has been by helicopter from either Dawson City or Sixty-Mile River area however heavy equipment could probably be brought in using local rough roads built by placer miners to access their claims on Matson and Christmas Creeks.
Historic exploration in the area underlain by the CH claims was mainly limited to placer mining on Christmas Creek which bisects the claim block and Matson Creek which runs along the western side of the claim block. Cassiterite is reported to have been found in placer concentrates from Matson Creek.
No geological mapping has been carried out on the CH claims. Regional geological maps produced by the Yukon Geological Survey show that the claims are underlain by Permian Klondike Schist (PKf), interpreted to be a metamorphosed succession. The Klondike Schist consist of a felsic metavolcanic member which is composed of tan to rusty, pale quartz-muscovite +/- chlorite schist. The more chloritic, pale to light green quartz-muscovite-chlorite schists have been subdivided into an intermediate member (PKi) that may still be part of the felsic metavolcanic unit. Mapping carried out by Metals Creek Resources to the north indicates that the northern portion of the CH claims are likely underlain by minor intercalated fine clastic metasedimentary rocks.
Regional magnetic data collected by the Yukon Geological Survey shows distinct magnetic domains with a northwest-southeast orientation, parallel to the structural grain of the region. The northeastern portion of the claim block is underlain by a high magnetic linear domain that appears to be bisected by a fault and probably corresponds to a magnetic member of the Klondike Schist. This feature also hosts the gold-silver-lead mineralization found on the adjoining (to the north), Squid East property (Minfile Occurrence #115N 096).
In 1970 Atlas Explorations discovered a quartz vein measuring approximately 1 m in width containing visible galena which returned an assay of 34.3 g/t silver and 1% lead (occurrence location). Although the date of discovery is uncertain, the occurrence is noted in Open File 1984-2: Gold - Silver Deposits and Occurrences in Yukon, pointing to its likely discover by Atlas Explorations. This discovery lead to further exploration for massive sulphide deposits in conjunction with the Bored (Squid West), occurrence (Minfile Occurrence #115N 100) located approximately 9 km to the southwest.
The CH claims were staked to explore for orogenic gold mineralization similar to the recently discovered Golden Saddle and Coffee (Minfile Occurrences #115O 165 and 115J 110) deposits. Soil and minor rock sampling to date has outlined clusters of anomalous gold, silver, copper, lead and zinc values located mostly north of Christmas Creek. No trenching or drilling has been carried out to follow-up these anomalies and the majority of the claim block has not yet been covered by soil geochemical surveys or other work.
