Work History

Staked as Ice cl (Y9937) in Aug/66 by D. Backstrom. Restaked as Billy cl (YA48584) in Mar/80 by K. Gruber and as Rain cl (YA75049) in Sep/82 by Harjay ECL which restaked as Chairgold cl (YA94380) in Apr/86 and performed mapping and sampling later in the year. In Sep/88, B. Harris added Slump cl (YB21537) to the east. Hand trenching was done on both the Chair Gold and Slump claims in 1989.

Capsule Geology

The original Chair showing consists of malachite and azurite-stained quartz veins containing minor pyrite, chalcopyrite and tetrahedrite, exposed in several old hand pits near the summit of Chair Mountain. The veins appear to be associated with porphyry dykes and with a zone of strong argillic alteration along a fault which cuts volcanic rocks near the head of the creek draining west from Chair Mountain. Blast trenching in 1989 uncovered a strongly sericite and clay-altered intrusion cut by narrow quartz-carbonate veins and diorite dykes.
The Slump claims cover several 10-50 cm quartz-barite veins with variable amounts of sphalerite, chalcopyrite, pyrite and galena. The veins cut Permian sedimentary rocks east of Sanpete Creek and are traceable over a strike length of 100 m. A chip sample of one of these veins reportedly assayed 500 ppb Au. A 25 cm chip sample taken in 1989 across a 25 cm vein contained > 20 000 ppm Zn, 8880 ppm Pb, 1400 ppm Cu, 5.6 ppm Ag and 51 ppb Au.
