Work History

Staked as Row cl 1-24 (YA81968) in May 1984 by Noranda Exploration Company Ltd, which carried out geological mapping and geochemical rock, silt and soil sampling later in the year and geochemical silt and soil sampling, geological mapping, prospecting and hand trenching in 1985.

Regional & Property Geology

The occurrence is located in the Dawson Range within Yukon-Tanana Terrane (YTT). The rocks of the YTT in this region consist of Early Mississipian metamorphic rocks separated into meta-sedimentary and meta-igneous suites (Stroshein, 1998). The meta-sedimentary suite consists of micaceous quartz-feldspar gneiss, schist and quartzite of the Nasina Assemblage. The meta-igneous package is comprised of biotite-hornblende feldspar gneiss and coarse-grained granodiorite orthogneiss with lesser amphibolite.

The claims are underlain by biotite schist, assigned to the Carboniferous Simpson Range (MgSR by Colpron (2014). These rocks are locally intruded by Cretaceous hornblende diorite and monzonite and overlain by Late Cretaceous Carmacks Group basalt flows.

Mineralization & Results

The claims were staked on silver-lead-zinc-copper soil anomalies with copper, lead, zinc and silver values up to 74 ppm Cu, 120 ppm Pb, 320 ppm Zn and 3 ppm Ag. Prospecting in 1984 noted 3 to 5% disseminated galena with pyrite and chalcopyrite in biotite schist.

The 1985 soil sampling grid by Noranda also returned anomalous copper, lead, zinc and silver values up to 140 ppm Cu, 300 ppm Pb, 600 ppm Zn, and 1.2 ppm Ag. Trenching did not hit bedrock, but returned values of up to 362 ppm Zn, 330 ppm Pb and 0.4 ppm Ag.
