Exploration History

The occurrence was first staked as the King Orloff and Wisner cl (13859) in Oct/21, but no work was recorded and the claims were allowed to lapse. The occurrence was restaked as Kirk cl (YA61341) in Jun/81 by H. Damron and then partially restaked as the Spock cl (YA94823) in Jun/86 by All-North Res L.

In 1985, the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC) performed regional stream sediment sampling on the map sheet covering the King property. Two stream sediment samples were collected from drainages on the current King property, which returned strongly anomalous copper values of 69 and 110 ppm.

In 1986, a program of reconnaissance-scale prospecting and geochemical sampling was carried out by Nordac Resources Ltd. (later reorganized to become Strategic Metals) to follow up the historical copper anomalies, and to evaluate gold potential in the area of the AH occurrence.

In 2010, Strategic Metals Ltd staked the King claims and performed soil sampling, an airborne magnetic and radiometric survey.

In 2011, 2014 and 2015, Strategic completed more staking and soil sampling.

Capsule Geology

The main lithological unit in the area is the Povoas formation (uTrP) and is a dark green, porphyritic, equigranular or brecciated basalt which weathers white to trusty. The matric is a dark grey to black or green and aphanitic. A small diorite plug and related dykes (potentially Aishihik Suite) have been mapped in the area. Furthermore, several small faults have been mapped, trending north or northeast and are associated with intense shearing, fracturing and alteration that are marked by gossans.

The occurrence comprises banded chalcedonic and opaline quartz rubble which is exposed in an old hand pit at the top of a prominent gossan. No sulphides are noted at the showing but iron staining is present. The gossan occurs along the western edge of a 60 m wide, north trending fracture and shear zone cutting volcanics.
