Work History

Staked as Cad cl (Y35352) in Jun/69 by M. Nichiporick, who carried out geochem sampling and optioned the claims to Crest Dev L in Dec/69. The option was transferred in 1970 to Yreka ML, which conducted grid soil sampling, EM 16, mag and IP surveys and drilled 730.3 m (9 holes) before dropping the option. The property was optioned again in Sep/70 by Caltor Synd (Rayrock ML, Ashland O & GL, and Can Ind O & GL), which drilled an additional 363.0 m (3 holes) in early 1971. Nichiporick drilled one x-ray hole (8.5 m) in 1974.
In Dec/69 a rush developed and over 900 claims were staked along the east side of Sekulmun Lake. The companies involved were Yreka ML - Gem cl (Y44238) and Cad cl (Y45738), Giant EL - Bow cl (Y45690); Noranda ML - Joyce (Y45546); Brameda Res L - Anne cl (Y45442); Panther ML - Sue 1-32 cl (Y45380); and Eagle Ind L - Sue 33-64 cl (Y45412). In addition, 90 claims - Hot cl (Y50008) and Liz cl (Y51044) were staked on the west side of the lake.
Noranda staked the SEK cl (YA19288) 3.2 km to the east in Nov/77 and explored with mapping and soil sampling in 1978.
Restaked as Blin cl (YB26676) in Jul/89 by Noranda ECL.

Capsule Geology

Sphalerite occurs with pyrite and minor chalcopyrite and scheelite in garnet-diopside-magnetite skarns and diopside-actinolite skarns that have developed in marble bands in a pyritic quartzite sequence. The skarns have developed near quartz-feldspar-biotite porphyry dykes. The metasedimentary sequence dips gently northwest under the lake. The discovery showing is about 40 m long and up to 8 m thick and returned assays of up to 18.0% Zn and 0.4% Cu. A large area with weakly anomalous zinc values was located by soil sampling.
Only two of the original 9 holes, both at the discovery showing, cut significant mineralization. One intersected 9.15 m assaying 0.56% Zn and the other cut 4.58 m assaying 1.84% Zn. The Caltor drilling cut a number of narrow zones with traces of chalcopyrite and sphalerite in a pyrite-pyrrhotite gangue. The best interval assayed 0.16% Zn, 0.02% Cu, 2.1 g/t Ag and trace gold across 0.6 m.
Caltor relogged the Yreka drillholes and found minor scheelite associated with the mineralized sections and occasional disseminated scheelite elsewhere in the holes.
Noranda located minor pyrrhotite with small galena-filled fractures along the margin of a stock.
