Work History
Staked as Bert cl (64120) in Aug/52 by Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting as part of a large block extending southeast from Wellgreen. Following prospecting and geophysical surveys, Hudson Bay drilled 5 holes (210.3 m) in 1954 on Bert #19 claim. The property was fringe staked as Rex cl (63371) in 1952 by Conwest and as Vic cl (68684) by Transcontinental Res L, neither of which filed any work.
Restaked as Glen cl (Y11400) in Dec/66 by Alice Lake Mines Ltd which conducted magnetic and EM surveys and drilled 2 holes (218.5 m) in 1967. Alice Lake restaked the showing in Sep/72 as Mary cl (Y67164) and conducted further geophysical, geochemical and geological surveys.
Restaked as Den, Sue, Wen, Jo etc cl (YA23529) in Aug/78 by L.B. Halferdahl and Assoc (BUR Syndicate), which explored with mapping, deep soil sampling (up to 0.9 m) and a mag survey in 1979-80, trenching and 5 holes (297.2 m) in 1981, 3 holes (273.1 m) in 1982 and more sampling and mapping in 1983 and 1984. The property was transferred to Tatam Resources Ltd, which drilled on the Wen 7 and JV 40 claims in 1985 and explored with trail construction, stripping, trenching and geological and geochemical surveys on the JY claims in 1986.
In 1987, the claims were transferred to Nathan Minerals Inc which explored with trenching and drilling later that year and airborne and ground magnetic and VLF surveys and soil sampling in 1988, geophysical surveys and trenching and 728 m of drilling (10 holes) in 1989. Nathan Minerals performed 48 line-km of magnetic surveys and 2 696 m3 of trenching in 1990 and minor road work in 1991.
Capsule Geology
Minor amounts of pyrrhotite, pentlandite and chalcopyrite are exposed on the north bank of Burwash Creek in an area 6 m by 1.5 m. A grab sample containing 50% sulphides assayed 3.6% Ni and 0.7% Cu. Similar small showings occur 183 m west and 183 m northwest of the main showing and also on the west side of Tatamagouche Creek below the canyon. The showings coincide with EM anomalies at the base of sill-like bodies of Triassic gabbro-peridotite which intrude Lower Permian tuff, sandstone and slate and Permo-Pennsylvanian andesite pyroclastic rocks. In 1967 Alice Lake drilled an EM conductor (Anomaly A), extending west from the showing, with disappointing results. The 1972 work reportedly defined a copper-nickel zone 427 by 732 m.
Halferdahl outlined copper-nickel geochemical anomalies coincident with the basal contacts of the mafic-ultramafic sills, but the 1981 drillholes intersected low nickel and copper values. Later work in Tatamagouche Creek returned trace gold trace gold from pyritic tuff below the peridotite sill. The tuff is highly fractured and altered and contains up to 10% magnetite and pyrite, and minor chalcopyrite. Samples taken in 1988 assayed up to 3% Ni and 2% Cu.
Diamond drilling on the Sue 2 claim in 1989 (DDH 89-9 and 89-10) was intended to test a platinum anomaly in peridotite which was identified by 1987 percussion drilling. Both holes had to be abandoned due to poor ground conditions. A south-dipping peridotite body was trenched, sampled and traced by magnetic surveys for a strike length of 2 km.
