Work History
The easterly showing was staked as Copper Chief and Lucky Star cl (7992) in Sep/07 by S. Albert, J.R. Slaggard and O.F. Jenkins, who drove a 5 m adit by 1913. The Lucky Hit cl (10208) was staked nearby in Nov/09 by N.E. Morgan and optioned to Skolai Mg CL, which filed 18 m of drifting in at least two adits in 1910-1917.
Restaked as Ermine, Ada and Gopher cl (13901) in Aug/23. The westerly showing was staked as Silver Fox and Black Fox claims in 1907 although claim records indicate these were not recorded until Aug/09 (10206). Three adits 1.8 to 3 m long were driven prior to 1913 and the claims were patented in Jan/16 by North America Transportation and Trading CL.
Restaked as Pete cl (4342) in Nov/44 by Per Johnson and H. Rail and as CC cl (Y11538) in Nov/66, which were optioned to Pacific Giant Steel OL, and assigned to a new company, Canyon City EL, in Dec/67. Exploration consisted of hand trenching, prospecting and sampling in 1966 and 1967, road building, grid soil sampling, mapping and an I.P. survey in 1968.
In 1970, Conwest drilled one hole (121.9 m) under option to test an IP anomaly 760 m east of the east.
Northern Empire ML tied on the Box cl (Y21847) to the east in Dec/67.
Capsule Geology
The east showing consists of pyrite and pyrrhotite with minor chalcopyrite and bornite in quartz stringers within a shear zone which cuts Permo-Pennsylvanian Station Creek volcanics. Weathering has produced a strong, local gossan about 30 cm. A chip sample from a 9.4 m trench across the showing assayed 1.02% Cu. A grab sample assayed 4.5% Cu and 6.9 g/t Ag. Irving reported an assay of 16.2% Cu and 17.1 g/t Ag from a selected grab sample.
The west showing consists of a 0.9 m vein which cuts volcanic rocks and contains minor pyrite and chalcopyrite. A chip sample by the GSC assayed 0.85% Cu over 1.1 m. The drill hole cut weakly pyritic, graphitic argillite from which sludge assays ranged between 0.02 and 0.06% Cu.
