Work History

Staked as Cat, Dog, etc cl (65425) in Apr/53 by Canalask Nickel Mines Ltd, a new company formed by Ontario Nickel Mines Ltd and Frobisher Ltd, following an aeromagnetic survey by Lundberg Exploration Ltd. Frobisher's interest was later transferred to Quebec Metallurgical Industry Ltd. Canalask built a winter road to the property and attempted to drill but was unable to penetrate the overburden.
Restaked as Bean cl 1-4 (Y5585) in Apr/66 by R.A. Dickson and as NICU cl 1-4 and 9-16 (Y18122) in May/67 by General Enterprise Ltd, which built a new road and bulldozer trenched later in the year.
Restaked as JJ cl 1-22 (Y24922) in May/68 and GG cl 1-56 (Y26293) in Oct/68 by P. Versluce and R. Hilker, who carried out bulldozer trenching in 1969; partially restaked as M cl 1-14 and 19-61 (Y77302) to the northwest in Oct/73; hand trenched in 1973-74; and staked more claims in 1974 and 1975. The property was optioned to Western Mines Ltd (Brascan) in 1975, which carried out geological mapping, prospecting and bulldozer trenching later that year and additional geological mapping in 1976 before terminating the option.
Restaked as Cats cl 1-12 (YA96439) in Oct/86 by Kluane Joint Venture (All-North Resources Ltd and Chevron Minerals Ltd), which added Cats cl 13-20 (YA96587), Dogs cl 1-16 (YA96608) and Liberty cl 1-12 (YA96624) in Dec/86. In Apr/87 the property was optioned to Silverquest Resources Ltd, which carried out prospecting and geochemical rock and soil sampling in 1987. Harjay Exploration Company Ltd tied on 11 non-consequtively numbered Pillow cl (YA97385) to the west in May/87 and carried prospecting and sampling in 1988.
Archer, Cathro and Associates (1981) Ltd restaked the showing as the Klu cl 1-24 (YB47016) in Jul/94 and as Klux cl 1-26 (YC18459) in Mar/2000 on behalf of the Donjek Joint Venture (Expatriate Resources Ltd and Strategic Metals Ltd). All but four claims (Klux cl 13-16) were subsequently allowed to lapse before the joint venture carried out geological mapping, prospecting and geochemical rock sampling in 2001. Ownership of the remaining four claims was transferred to Expatriate in Oct/2002 and subsequently to Stratagold Corporation in May/2003.

Capsule Geology

The original claims were staked over a 300 gamma, elliptical aeromagnetic anomaly about 3.2 km long that is mapped as being underlain by Pennsylvanian to (?) Lower Permian volcanic and sedimentary rocks of the Wrangellia Terrane. Copper-nickel float was reportedly found at several localities associated with a younger, possibly Late Triassic, serpentinized peridotite sill about 30 m thick.
The 1975-76 work was located about 1.6 km northwest of the earlier work. Detailed mapping outlined two distinct styles of mineralization. Most significant are stratiform, disseminated and lensoid or laminated pyrite, chalcopyrite and pyrrhotite in mineralized zones up to 0.3 m thick within a 360 m thick sequence of mineralized andesitic flows and tuff that can be traced for 2 km.
Small showings outside the mineralized horizon include chalcopyrite and pyrite in quartz veins in tuff and argillite; chalcopyrite in shears in argillite; and disseminated chalcopyrite, pyrite and magnetite in brecciated coarse-grained tuff. Specimens assayed in 1987 returned 0.31% Ni from peridotite with 2% pyrrhotite, and 1.2% Cu from pyroclastic rocks. PGE values were anomalous with up to 137 ppb Pt and 160 ppb Pd.
Mapping in 2001 noted the presence of mafic and ultramafic on the property including gabbro and diorite and the previously identified peridotite. All of these rock types contain varying amounts of pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite, ranging from 1% pyrrhotite in the peridotite to 15¿18% combined pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite in the hybrid(?) gabbro. Sampling was limited to five grab samples of mineralized gabbro, with the best assay results returned from a piece of rusty weathering float (T30950) which assayed 31 ppb Au, 120 ppb Pt, 690 ppb Pd, 6 020 ppm Cu and 2 790 ppm Ni.
