Work History
Staked as Chromite cl (63391) in Aug/52 by H. Versluce and C. Gibbons and restaked as Mink, etc cl (68959) in Jul/54 and AL, GAIL and Jay cl (72459) in Jun/56 by Stride E and Dev CL, which also staked 4.8 km of placer leases (1801-1803) covering a gravel fan at the mouth of Contact Creek.
Capsule Geology
A peridotite sill 1.6 km wide intrudes steeply dipping shale and sandstone of the Jurassic-Cretaceous Dezadeash Formation. Near its northern contact, along Contact Creek, the rock is medium to coarsely crystalline and strongly serpentinized, and contains clots of magnetite up to 2.5 cm across. Chromite occurs in fine-grained bands of peridotite which cut the coarser variety.
The best band, 15 to 25 cm wide, was traced for a length of 3 m and had a northwest strike and a dip of 50° to the northeast. A sample of black cobbles collected from the base of the stock by the GSC assayed 19.8% Cr and 11.5% Fe, the equivalent of about 45% chromite. Very fine platinum present in stream gravels at the foot of the mountain is probably derived from the peridotite body.
