Work History
Acquired as Coal Exploration Licence #77 in Nov/77 by Pan Ocean Oil Ltd, which carried out geological mapping and drilled 2 holes (689 m) in 1980. The area was relicensed as #134 in Nov/80; and as CYM0013 by P. Wheelton in Dec/2001.
Capsule Geology
Although exposure is scarce, this deposit is inferred to occupy a west-plunging syncline, the axis of which coincides with the south part of the Pan Ocean (West Illtyd) deposit (Minfile Occurrence #106E 034). Seam # 2 is exposed in a creek bank. Hole 80-22 intersected all five seams recognized in the West Illtyd deposit. Coal quality and stratigraphy are comparable to those in the main Illtyd deposit. However, coal horizons here are among the best encountered in the Bonnet Plume basin. For example, Hole 80-25 intersected an aggregate thickness of 30 m of coal in seams greater than 1.5 m thick within a 230 m section. Inferred in-situ reserves are 157 950 000 tonnes of high volatile, bituminous C non-coking coal.
