Work History
Staked in Sep/76 by Mountaineer ML as Break cl (YA7104), which were prospected and optioned to Pan Ocean OL later in the year. The Polaris & Orion cl (YA1673) were staked to the northeast in Feb/76 by Nuspar Res L. Both claim blocks were explored with mapping, radiometric and geochem surveys in 1977 and 1978 and mapping and hand trenching in 1980. Mountaineer changed its name to Can Ml Corp in 1979. Pan Ocean's interest were transferred to Aberford Res Ltd in 1981.
Westmin Resources Ltd. staked Wolv cl 1-64 (YB44670) 2.5 km to the northeast between May and Jul/95. In Jun/95 one diamond drill hole ( 271 m) was drilled on claim 19 located 2.5 km northeast of the prospect.
Capsule Geology
The region is underlain by a metamorphosed and altered sequence of Early Proterozoic Wernecke Supergroup clastic and carbonate rocks (Fairchild Lake Group, Quartet Group and Gillespie Lake Group, from oldest to youngest) that are intruded by Early to Middle Proterozoic mafic sills and dykes, and cut by Middle Proterozoic Wernecke Breccia. To the west, Cambrian carbonates unconformably overlie the Wernecke Supergroup. According to Thorkelson (2000), Wernecke Breccia development is best modeled as a set of hydrothermal and/or phreatic breccias; brecciation being caused by explosive expanson of volatile-rich fluids. Hunt (2005) attributed Wernecke Breccia formation to periodic over-pressuring of dominantly basinal fluids, which lead to repeated brecciation of host strata and mineral precipitation.
The claims cover a breccia body which cuts Early Proterozoic Quartet Group argillite and Fairchild Lake Group siltstone, quartzite and dolomite. Chalcopyrite and pyrite occur as disseminations in a quartzite horizon, in the quartz-carbonate veins and locally in massive pods within the Fairchild Lake Group on the Break claim. Two areas of mineralization - the West and East showings - were sampled and returned 0.9% Cu over 1.5 m and 1.8% Cu over 2.3 m, respectively. Some trench samples produced slightly elevated gold assays. Weak uranium geochemical anomalies were reported on the Polaris and Orion groups but no radiometric anomalies or uranium mineralization were discovered.
